Well this weekends work has ended not as expected. late Saturday morning I started on the missfire hunt, again. multi meter out checking no resistance between the injector loom and the red plug of the ecu, All ok. Then injectors out to check compression and move injector number 1 into a different spot. so I could run it on live data to see if the high balance figure I sometimes get on cylinder one had moved. Well I Now have a damaged piston in my hand.

I believe that to be part of the piston ring broken.

Cylinder one was down to 13 bar the rest were between 25 and 29 bar. So know I had a problem straight away so thought about it over lunch then took the head off. Had a good look at everything. and after a lot of checking and time wasting worked out piston number 1 wasn't sealing as well as the rest. So this afternoon decided to had the sump and oil pump off to get the piston out and have a look. And that's what I found. There is a slight mark on the bore just hope that's going to be ok. Getting a second opinion tomorrow.

Its now back together just with injectors left to put in, oil water etc. This is what a new piston looks like.

Nice Clean oil pump assb.

Year old pump that decided to leak once, so as I had replacement in stock I fitted it as it was an easy job with the head off and the rotory filter drain pipe off the sump.

Hopefully done for the weekend. Luck my misses don't use her car much but have had to service that to while uses it.

D2 is running well, so fitted some parts I've had sitting about, a bit late for this year or early for next winter but made the loom for D3 heated washer jets yesterday and fitted it all today (lunch hour jobs at work)

Next mod hopefully rock / tree sliders

As promised started on the sliders today. Here's the pictures.

Sill covers off and lots of dirt found.

I then offered up the sliders and drilled all the mounting holes, before any of the cleaning up and prep was done, so the swarf was blown out and holes will be all painted.

After a lot of blowing from end to end with the air line I got a lot out and made a lot of dust, Mite run it about with nothing on for a bit see if it looses any more, as I did drill the drain holes out a little.

Then a wire brush down, bit of surface rust at the rear but nice and solid.

Very clean at the bottom and the side edge.

Then primer

Undersealed

Door and trim interior trims back on.

started cleaning out the other side but that's as far as I got this evening.

My neighbours gave me this, told me he wasn't having another land rover and that I'll be needing this lol.

Hard to tell where its going but when it starts leaking out everywhere I thought that'll do.

So that's both sills done inside and out, Sliders on next.

When I got home from my 3 night break in the tin tent, I have some silicone blanking caps on my mat. I as I was fed up of the EGR blanks that kept perishing. and decided to strip the rest of it out completely.

June 2015

To Steve, Happy Birthday, From Steve.

. I've took a live feed from my aux fuse box in the engine bay to the relays, mounted on my split charge relay bracket. (see planned ahead)

Don't worry it was shrink wrapped and put in conduit, But it was such a good solder I took the picture first. lol

The relays, one switched by full beam, But with another switch inline to disable it. The other from D1 front Fog light switch in ash tray position.

Then as I was wiring up the D1 switch pack I wanted to be able to switch my rear work lights on from the drivers seat, So added another relay to the rear for this to work, Wiring was already in place.

So if you haven't been following I have a small block of 6 fuse pack from a D1 dash loom mounted behind my glove box feed from the aux under bonnet fuse box feed from the second battery (keeping up lol) A live runs from behind the glove box fuse box to power all the D1 switch pack. So Basically Every thing I've add runs from the Second battery, All extra lights can be left on with out the need for the keys or worrying about running the battery flat.

Front fogs = front light bar
Rear fogs = rear work lights
Cruise control = Not used (for now)

Need to go out in the dark but the reflection off signs in crazy.

Well had a whistle after fitting the LED thought it was the now unused holes in the old light bar, so blocked these up with grommets glued in place but still there, then thought it must be the led bar itself, so blocked the ends with card, and it was gone. So ordered some 5mm Perspex and Friday night went to my dads to use his workshop, (Aladdin's cave) Got the Perspex cut how I wanted it.

So had to go and get these fitted

Cut

Fitted

Little mod I liked the idea of when I saw everyone else do it with the alarm sensor, but I'd already used that spot and needed to volt meters one for each battery. So this is what I did.

Perspex was cut a few weeks ago (but did need a trim) Wiring I put in place last week, then the meters came a couple days ago, and that was long enough to wait so in the dark I started. Still go to make the connection to the aux fuse box but that's in the engine bay so need to be water tight so will have to wait.

Sorry about the dark photos.

I hope all these updates are keep you busy and maybe filling some inboxes with notifications lol. Was going to finish but got a big ending lol#
passed MOT this week but got some jobs to do that I've been meaning to get to but time just fly by. Its not the small jobs either. [119.gif] But to cheer me up I fitted these tonight and also been prepping me new wheels ready to paint.

5th one came today, that I won off ebay so just need a tyre for the spare as I have these for the other 4.

I wasn't getting a spare to sort the wheel's only got as far as priming the wheels but did finish the centre caps for colour check. The wheels have now gone to be done the same.

I have also just complete a full service (minis pollen filter) on the D2 included All oils, engine, gearbox, transfer box and both axles. Both oil filters, air and fuel filter, greased props, checked over filled screen wash, check lights and adjusted tyre pressures. So that should keep me going for a bit. Just got front to rear brake pipe to replace and a brake fluid change to do. and decide weather or not the change the hoses and if I need longer ones.

So tonight I fitted an led strip in the boot area running off my aux battery via rear fuse box, so when the interior lights time out I can leave this on for as long as I want and won't drain the main battery as with all my extra lights etc.

I've just read through this thread start to finish and can only say...well done mate. Its Inspiring actually.

I've also just finished reading through - very nice work you've done there. It really makes me want to get out and work on my D1! Keep it coming steve :)
