£2k for an M Plate is taking the **** £1k Max and then only if it's in mint condition with a very low mileage that can be prooved to be accurate.

I don't really have much idea about the price of landys, that why I'm asking on here really.
Having looked around I cant seem to find any below about £15-1600 for that year and they are not as good as the one I saw locally for 2k. It is in very nice condition but does have a few minor faults. I really don't want to get ripped off here so if you guys have any suggestions where I could look for a dealer with one thats more reasonably priced I would appreciate it. I am located close to birmingham in the midlands but I don't mind travelling if it is worth while.

I notice that you state that MPG is important due to the mileage that you do?

Please be aware that it will cost you £110-£115 to fill up a TDI Disco, and from that you will get around 550 miles, maybe a little less.

I do around 40-50'000 miles p/a, and I originally bought my Disco as a daily driver. With the frankly **** poor MPG that i was getting from it, I bought a Rover 75 as a daily snotter, and get the Disco as a off-road toy.

Just thought that I would point this out before you buy.

As others have said, 300TDi every time. And as others have said, dont forget to look for rust. Boot floor, sills and inner front wings seem to be the usual places.

I understand it will cost me more to run a disco than my renault estate and am prepared for this, I don't do many miles currently, just local running about, probably around 10-15000 per year but I am moving 100 miles away from my home town in the next 12-18 months and will occasionally be travelling back, hopefully not too often but I have to be prepared anyway.
Thanks for the advice though.

.

Try Ebay & autotrader. Don't buy off a forecourt. You'll get ripped off. the arse has fallen out of the 4x4 market at the moment. In fact people are weighing a lot of discos in for scrap at the moment because they are worth more as scrap then they are as 2nd hand cars.

Take someone with you who knows Disco's If you don't know anyone then ask on the forum There are plenty of people around the Midlands that will come with you and offer you a 2nd opinion (SI, Drippa yer wanted):D

I agree with red, 2k is taking the ****. bought my k plate tdi 6 months ago with bugger all rust (and i looked hard for it) in overall good nick and i paid 800 quid for it and that seems a bit expensive in the current market.

Best 800 quid I've ever spent and you get to talk to all these loonies:p:p:p:p:p:p:p.

Aye, as has been said, get the tdi but beat the booger down to 3 figures, the bottom has fallen out of the 4x4 market etc. point out faults yada yada, oh and give the boot floor and arches a good stab with a screwdriver!

I went to look at an M plate disco once and under the boot carpet there was more air than steel, and the rear seatbelt mounts (supposed to mount to the rear arches) were only held down by the carpet as there was no arch

You came to look at my car?

Snigger! Me and GJ spent 4 hours driving to this fookr who said it was all in a1 condition

Man, I hate it when that happens.

It's like, "Do you think I'm a ****ing idiot? Do you not think that I'd realise that your car was a nail? Why tell me it's a minter when it's clearly not? Do you not think I've got better things to be doing with my time than travel 200 miles to look at a heap of **** you ****ing nobhead?"

Theres nowt worse than sellers wasting your time.

Probably won't go for that one now after looking at the TDi's listed on autotrader. I was going to pay up to £1500 for one but as they are listed from £ 6-700 upwards I will have a look at a few and find someone to come with me who knows what they are looking for, I should save myself a few hundred quid then which I can use for any extra expenses like insurance and road tax if needed.
I'm not that bad with cars but I have been stung a few times so I don't want to risk it with a vehicle that I am unfamiliar with and could potentially cost a lot of money to repair.

Thanks for all the advice.

Stuart

Thanks for that, hope I don't have to travel quite that far for one. I think I may have to travel a bit of a distance because all the local disco's seem to be vastly overpriced.
Looking at one 40 miles away from me on autotrader website which looks OK, maybe you guys can give me your opinion based on the advert before I go travelling to view it.

Auto Trader UK - LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 300 Tdi 5dr Diesel Station Wagon

Does that look like an OK deal?

Stuart

How long you lived in Walsall then? :D

Gave the game away there.:p bout 37 years. (I'm nearly 38!!)

I'll keep looking then, I didn't really take too much notice of the mileage as I thought these buggers kept going and going and going and going........ Guess I was wrong after reading some of the posts on here, particularly the joke section!!!:D

I wouldn't be put off by the mileage, however I would want to confirm that it's a diesel (yes, I know the piccie shows a Tdi300 lump) as the text in the ad says petrol !!!!

For £600 it would be alright !!

Cheers
Dave
