Can you tell me why my dash says Av fuel & always says 24.9mpg and never seems to change.

Because, on average, it's doing 24.9 mpg 
If you've not reset it in a long time, it won't change, on average

The MPG is calculated over the previous 30 miles, so the display takes ages to change. Mine shows 30.4 or 30.5 all the time, so it's pretty normal for it to stick on 1 reading for ages.

We have a load of Toyota Corolla Fielder hybrid stationwagons at work.
They are boring cars - but the hybrid bit makes them quite interesting. Flicking though the pages of display on the dash, and watching the fuel consumption especially. That does change a lot as it goes through different power modes.
Its fun to see if you can keep it on battery only for a while and watch the (km/l) figure climb up.
Suppose as its a works car, I should floor it to to see how low it would go
