Hello every one . How many mpg should I expect from my td4 53 plate she's only doing on average 19-20 per gallon . How much do other people's do .

Hi

Is yours manual or auto. Our Auto TD4 HSE does around 30 mpg, more on a long run, about 28 around town. Are you sure that's all you're getting, how heavy is your right foot ! That's with EGR blanked & an Allisport full face intercooler & a Pipercross air filter fitted.

Sorry manual . Has a synergy chip on , on Eco I've a heavy right foot but our lass drives it more and she definitely hasn't . 220 miles to 50 quid think I worked it out right . Mixed driving

I got an app called 'Road trip' a few months ago & was shocked to discover I was only doing 22 mpg. I can be quite heavy footed & will often use the kick down. I drove the next tank very steady & was pleased to push it up to 26mpg, all based on town driving & short cold trips. I went on a 400+ trip & got 35mpg driving a very steady 60-70mph there. On the way back I got 28mpg driving 70+
No synergy fitted, EGR valve not blocked, TD4 auto

Hope that helps as a comparison

I have a 2004 Auto with egr by-pass and Pierburg MAF with Synergy2a+

City driving = 25mpg or worse.

A and B roads with Synergy set at Nr 8 and switch set to 'Power' gives around 36mpg.

Long motorway journeys with Synergy set at Nr 8 but with switch set to 'Eco' I can easily get 43mpg - even fully loaded and with a roof-box.

I've only used the kick-down once in over 8years - and that was an emergency situation.

Secret of high mpg is to keep the revs below 3K as much as possible.

I would be checking when the air-filter was last changed and that the egr was not jammed in the open position. Clean the egr and at the very least de-activate it.

26 and 28 mpg sound good to me think gonna have to go a bit steadier although not as much fun . Wish we'd got one earlier as love it ain't driven 4x4 since I stopped farming

If I was to get only 28mpg I would be devastated! :eek:

I go on long trips several times a year - 2500 miles in 4 days - I need economy at high speed.
I often do 3-4 hours non stop at a legal 85mph in mainland Europe.
Hoorah for the cruise-control - Mrs Singvogel calls it 'auto-pilot'. :rolleyes:

What difference does blanking the egr ?

was good for a few more mpg in my case

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i.e. fitting a 'delete' unit .. as opposed to blocking-the-vacuum on the original ..
Do you just take out and blank off
what's 'blanked-off' .. be the exhaust gas feed .. and the vacuum hose from the solenoid that operates the egr valve ..
better to fit a bypass/delete unit .. as they do away with the valve-body ..
which .. improves airflow .. .. which at the end of the day .. improves mpg ..
someone else asked a question ..
Has a synergy chip
if egr deleted = better airflow ...
that means ..
the MAF sensor will enable more fuel delivery at lower rpm ..
which means ..
you'll get up-to-speed quicker .. and be able to use higher gears at lower road speeds ..
which gives better mpg
hi
hope u didnt mind me dropping into ur post
im only gettting around 22mpg around town
got a synergy box set on number 2,
i have managed to get some pre obd2 laptop software but need to load it first
Need to do a brim-to-brim for an accurate measurement.
Get that out of my V6.:D
Seems my tiny maths head worked out wrong getting slightly more , seriously looking at doing the egr mod but will have to wait as put a bar and spots on this last weekend just need re furbelows the copper pot :)
