On a TDi 200 yes, but the 300's I find are at least 10 less good on mpg.

Not what I find, I have both...!
The 300tdi is better all round. The 200tdi are ok engines but evolution to the 300tdi is where the best can be found.
In my experience the 200tdi is a bit soft whereas the 300tdi solved all the initial problems the 200tdi had and is a much much stronger engine.

33!!!!??? I drive like Miss Daisy and only get 22 out of my 300 auto. What is going on? De-EGR; decat; well-serviced although it seems sluggish at times. Any ideas?

I think my TDi 300 auto had about 98,000mls on the clock when I sold her. She was de-catted, De-EGR'd, running on GG AT²'s and very regularly service (changed engine oil and all filters every 6,000mls). Fully synth oils in the tranny box and axles. No roof-rack or extra lights. No aircon.

On long runs I would cruise on A-roads at about 55mph (90kph limit here) and on motorways about 65mph (about 100-110kph)

I logged her fuel consumption very carefully, 33mpg over 16,000mls, in part because I was so impressed with her - she was the best TDi 300 I've had. This includes taking her to the Sahara desert !!

i can get around 800 miles on a full tank, but that is long distance. i get a little over 600 normal day to day driving

Dont think many on here will beleive you on that, I get about 30mpg in mine, I done the Decat, yet to do the EGR, but got one of them comming from the kids at xmas.

the decat did not do much to mpg, just made it a tad more sprightly, I notice you say that yours was not as good when you got it, please let us all know so we can do the same, and beifit form it,

i get around 30mpg out of my 200tdi. and around 22mpg with 16ft tri axle trailer on.
most of my driving is round towna nd round fields so i think the old disco is very good on juice. my shogun i had before it did around 10mpg less than disco

mine used to be around 22-24 mpg round town, but since decat pipe mod much better-egr blank did not make much difference-renewing oils in diffs,n boxes n greasing props etc all seems to help, but the big difference was deffo the decat pipe-might even be touching 30 mpg now,but need to confirm-did Lancing to Wisbech and back towing a trailer-full when I left, just under 3/4 tank when I got back-all motorway at 60-70,~360 miles

I hate you and your 15 p a litre fuel ! :D:D

sound about the same, if yours is old ish '95 replace the DPF filter(catalyst but it's not) in the exhaust or replace the down pipe, improves no end, good air filter to, around30-32ish.

is the norm,

This was actually to pick a boat up for my angling club,so they paid for derv so the old girl had a xmas present-still had more than half a tank of bio though before putting the derv in-the bio brewing is on hold at the mo,until it warms up above 0c-too bloody cold in the shed!!

What method are you using to make your bio? Id love to have a go just to stick two fingers up at the pumps. Last time I just tried mixing some svo with diesel and I had trouble stalling and that was with a warm engine in summer  It runs great on pump derv so dont know why it gave me trouble. I was only using about 25% oil / derv.

Hi Rollin danny
Take a look at:Biodiesel: Journey to Forever and:vegetableoildiesel.co.uk - Powered by XMB
Basically you take veg oil (new or used) and stew it up with methanol(poisonous and flammable) with caustic (nasty stuff)dissolved at around 60c.This strips the glycerine from the oil molecule and turns the fatty acid groups to Fatty Acid Methyl Esters(fame). This crude fuel then needs washing and filtering prior to pouring in your tank. The resultant fuel is far thinner than the parent oil and not that different from derv-It is a better lubricant than derv and has a higher cetane number-It is a slower burn fuel so diesels on the whole run quieter, and should last longer-MOT's are a breeze on bio expect 1/5 the emissions on derv.MPG is about the same, some say more, some say less.
To make the fuel well is easy,as long as you keep your wits about you handling dangerous chemicals, but it does take time, and is not for every one.-The hardest bit is finding a good source of waste cooking oil free(free waste oil gives you fuel for~15p per litre-this includes chemicals ,electricity, filters etc,but not your time) -pm me if you want more details mate

im lucky to get 18 mpg around town " disco 2 td5i 2.5 2002 "
methinks might need investigating
