MOVING FREELANDER 1 REAR LIGHTS

Hi all, I"ve mislaid the info a member used a thread to explain how to move the rear indicators from the bottom of the bumper to the reversing lights position on a Mark 1 Freelander. Anyone got any ideas

Why would you want to do this?

BTW - if you don't retain the original indicator position your car probably isn't technically road legal, as it will breach construction & Use Regs (the reason the lights are where they are in the first place). Maybe not an issue outside the UK or even EU. But your location suggests UK. You'd also need to inform your insurer.

Personally can't see any benefit in doing this.

Yes. The RH indicator would be hidden from behind, if the boot door is open, as the spare wheel blocks it. This turns hazard lights into a left indicator, which could be really dangerous if broken down on a dark motorway at night, for instance.

This is why the lights are in the position they are.

Essentially I've replicated the bumper lights to the upper position and have added a pair of super bright LEDs as my reverse lamps. Vehicle regs in the UK seem to be limiting on this sort of thing. However, that is a good point re the RH indicator / door open situation.

Don't leave the rear door open when broken down ?? Open it, grab what you need & close it again.

An open tail gate is a good indication the car is stationary, so don't break down at night!

I've just had a look at my standard face-lift FL1 and the right hand indicator and brake light are obscured when the tail gate is open so I think this legal query could be a red herring.

You're quite right they are hidden when the tail door is open.
Strange that.
