hi guys, im in the middle of deigning a set of custom bull bars(front and rear) as well as side steps, i was just wondering if anyone had the measurements of the mounting spacin, location etc. i dont really want to have to take off my bumpers to measure, put them back on then take off again once they are all made...

ideally, im after someone who has a set the could measure off the car i suppose...

....either that or a cad drawing already done, but thats a long shot! lol

thanks in advance guys! :)

Hi Mike, Would bulbar mount in a similar way to the nudge bars that are commonly seen on FL1s? I could measure mine if that's any use. Would you be meaning rock sliders when you say side steps as I'd be very interested in a set of those myself.

Whereabouts in NZ are you?

Hi HTR, that would be great mate, thank you.

in all honesty, they way these will be made will require quite a hefty bang to dent them (hopefully) but im doing them for an aggressive styling more than anything...

im also doing them in cad so will put up the drawings in a seperate post for anyone else who may be interested...

im in CHCH mate. :)

thats great, thank you..

actually i havent met anyone yet, ive only just bought it a couple of weeks ago and signed up her yesterday ( i think..)

is he from chch too then?

Oh right. I've seen a few fl around, actually work next to two.. Lol.

Mines the 2.0 td4.

Mainly looking to mod mine for looks wig the option of doing a bit off-roading but I've heard these aren't fantastic at off roading. Lol.

They are more able than many give credit for! Key point: to keep the transmission sys' in good order all tyres must match - same brand, size inflation. A mixed up set will drastically shorten the life of the VCU, IRD [aka transfer box] and possibly diff too. There's plenty of info on here about this. There are some relatively simple upgrades that can be done to enhance the serviceability of the engine too. Again search the forum. I've found parts to be cheaper in the UK and have bought in quite a lot for myself.

Most people are very helpful and there is a lot of experience to draw on. You'll have a good laugh too from time to time!

If you want more info' you can PM me on this forum.

Who told you that? They've not driven a Freelander or they would know different.
The Freelander is better off road, particularly slippery surfaces than a Discovery 2. Having pulled a stuck D2 out of thick mud with my V6 Freelander!!. It's kinda strange how the Freelander is slated for its off road prowess, when it's actually pretty good. It's only it's modest ground clearance that lets it down.

like i say, im only going off what ive been told, i suppose its like you say, the ground clearence and also the lack of diff locks and low range box but for what im gonna use it for, its pretty good for me... :)

thanks for the video HTR, did you have chains on or anythign in the snow or just the plain tyres?..
