I lived in Kent for a lot of years and over the past 17 of those years used a local garage to do all my MOT's, varying between 3 and 4 vehicles a year (cars and bikes). Built up a great rapport with the lads who did the testing and I was always sure they would do an honest job and if they found anything it would be genuine - only one fail in about 50+ tests, and on something I would never have found. Earlier this year I moved back up to Lincolnshire and hoped I could find another testing station with the same ethos. Took the wifes car in August to a local garage in the village, passed ok and asked if they would do a defender and how would they test the brakes? Got the right answers so booked it in there and then, took it in today and yippee pass and no advisories.

Clearly his super power is the ability to sniff out an MOT tester at 100 paces. Not your classic super power but better than nothing.

You can roller test a land rover for the MOT brake test without trouble. Mine has a notice to that effect on the fuse box cover- keep single axle tests below 5mph, diff lock off. Things like a P38 with the viscous diff, or a freelander with its viscous coupling are a no-no, but for the low speed/short duration tests done for an MOT test there's no real issue on a defender. A lot of testers do just take it out on the road instead as it's a simpler option, but it's useful to get the proper brake balance checked on the roller.

There wasn't a point as such, I was just chuffed to find a "new" tester that won't wreck my transmission on their rolling road when testing the brakes. (Some do wreck 'em so I hear)

Congratulations on the pass, I suspect most Landy owners hate the MoT tests. There's a Different setup in N.I. - it's all done in government centres. Most testers are fine, and a few are even Landy enthusiasts, but you do get the odd one who seems determined to fail you.
