I've been looking for a decent defender in the region of £5k now and have found a few on autotrader + eBay from Motodrome. They're based in Berkshire and specialise in 4x4s but all of the defenders I've looked at seem to have something iffy about them. Most are advertised as having an estimated mileage for some reason or another and all of them look like they have had a lot of use and wear. It may be completely wrong but I just seem to have a gut feeling telling me not to go there. Has anyone had any dealings or ever bought a motor from them?

Have a look and see if it's just me --> LAND ROVER - Motodrome

I've been saving up long and hard for a Landy and I'm not ready to blow all it on a dodgy one! Cheers!

Hello, Arbojoe

Iv come across this company many times when I was looking for my 110 CSW. He does do a lot of cars and even sells via eBay. I can not comment on his current stock all I can do is tell you about the ones I saw.

Your comment about them looking like they had been worked hard is very true in this case. I found one in what looked like good condition in photos and via YouTube link posted by this seller on eBay. However when I went and took a look it wasn't anywhere near as good as the pictures. I was beaten up inside, covered in crap and the outside left a lot to be desired, with what looked like a DIY re-spray, drift paint over everything.

I only travelled from Swindon to reading for a look so not a lot lost. go with your sence not your gut as it is far to easy to buy a crap one. If you can hold out like I did and keep looking, you will find a like minded owner with the right one for you.

Keep asking on here and if you cant get to the shows, go, you never know what you might find. The more people you ask and the more forums you join the better your search chances.

So let us have your wish list so we can look for you too.

Good luck.

Thanks Nevets,
I lt may we'll be a 100% legit firm and I don't want to make assumptions but I'm glad someone else has also noticed this.
I'm under no pressure to buy in a hurry so I will definitely wait for the right car to turn up. I'm hoping to get to Peterborough in September but I would ideally like to have one sorted by then. If there are any others near to me before then I'm sure I'll also make it there as well! And for the record I'm after a defender 90/110 I can have for daily use with a budget of £5k so probably an early 90s 200tdi.
Thanks for your reply

I went to look at a 110 at motodrome before eventually buying my 90 elsewhere. My experience was that his stock was comprised of battered, overpriced junk. Dodgy paint jobs, botched engine swaps, rust everywhere etc etc.

I would steer well clear!

It took me eight months to find my 110, and then I found it local just 15 miles away. I got mine for just under 4k, taxed, MOT the works and its been my daily drive everyday since.

I work out of mine so she has to be going all day everyday, I also green lane or play on Salisbury plain.

As said your better off buying through someone like a member here, that way its less likely to be a bag of bolts, stay clear of ebay for the same reason. I did hear of a guy called the lanyman up near Bolton/Birmingham, his stock also seamed a bit expensive especially after I found mine.

5k is a good budget, for a good runner, mine at 4k was a steal but a 1989 200tdi needs caring for so iv spent a lot on it in the last 18months. That said most of it iv modded my self, gull wing utility doors on the rear, paint job all of that, but also a lot of work on the props, engine etc.

just remember a 24 your old takes some work.

Nice red ex mod 90 in the for sale section. under 4 k, it could be converted from a soft top to a hard top for under 1k easy.
