MOT Tomorrow - nervous!

Wish me luck boys, going to take the old (newer) girl for an MOT at work tomorrow. I think I've sorted out all the issues - probably just down to how bad the metalwork (or lack of) is.

It passed eaxctly two years ago with no advisories but hasn't been attempted since and it's been standing for the past year.

I'll let you know how I get on. It's bad enough having one MOT failure sitting on the driveway...

Anybody else got one they're not looking forward to?

im alright for the minute, mines in june and i did a lot of welding last year.

my boot floors a bit dicky though, so i take the rear seats and seatbelts out so it doesnt get tested - i cba doing the floor just yet!

in a weird kinda way i look forward to the mot. i do my own maintenance and a hell of a lot of it too, so i know i aint gonna get any big suprises at mot time, so i kinda regard it as a contest, mot tester vs. sam! its exciting to see who wins! (but thats only for the disco which im regularly maintaining, for any other car its a PITA)

I have always panicked when coming to mot time...
but my landy has very rarely failed mot and never on bad things.
Wat ****es me off is when they moan or give an advisery for oily engine :mad2:
 
Mines booked in for Thursday, apart from the nearside sill which needs a bit of welding it should pass. The sill was borderline last year but he let it go but did have to rebuild the off side one. he does my welding for me anyway so no panic if he fails it.
 
Well lads and lasses,

Guess what - it passed! No advisories, but there are a couple of bits that the tester pointed out to me that may become issues in the future:

OSR of sill. Just starting to rust. I know it's box section but I don't know if it's worth replacing or just patching.

NSF Inner Arch. Rusting but not holed yet. Again, may be able to patch before it gets too bad, if not, replace.

Other than that no problems. Brakes are all fine (which is what I was worrying about). New brake lines were put on 3 years ago. Reasonably new discs and pads on the front. No play in bushes or bearings at all. A frame looks good too. Suspension ok.

Exhaust is very rusty at the back but not a problem to swap.

Chassis generally looks good too, but I think a bit of TLC when the weather improves will keep it going for a good few years yet.

Taxed it this afternoon so back on the road again. Really chuffed!!

I know the feeling. My older truck failed due to significant rust. All the usual places - boot floor, sills, chassis near rear suspension, inner wings. I couldn't justify paying someone that much to fix it, so if I can do it myself I will, if not I'll be breaking it. I'll running my other one till the weather improves and I get a chance to strip it all down.
 
Well done! I spoke to my tester earlier and told him it will probably fail on the sill, I told him I can't afford for it to be off the road, but can't afford to have the welding done until Jan, he said not to worry, he'd sort it and I can pay him them :D
 
I had a that sort of mechanic when I lived in Derby. Well worth knowing someone like that. He fitted a cambelt on one of my cars about 5 years ago and I still haven't paid him! Look after him with some beer tokens.

Mines getting done by the end of the week, I used to be a mechanic so can normally get em through first time. I checked it over back in the summer and did a fair bit of welding but it's been sat since and I can't remember what (if anything) was left to do apart from brake pipes and bump stops.

I'm dropping it off tomorow with my mate who's doing those couple of bits for beer tokens and then it'll be getting tested, can't say I'm looking forward to it though.

I know it's an old thread, but SteveBLandy did you ever settle up with the mechanic in Derby?

I'm in derby (we just outside) new to land rovers having fallen for the sound of the V8 in a 98 disco and will be needing a good mechanic .

So if you still have details of that mechanic you could share that'd be great
