MOT time

Hi,

My 2a lightweight is due its MOT, it's a 1972 and the first Landy I've ever owned so I have a couple of (possibly stupid) questions.

The reversing light has never worked since I bought it, would it ever have had one and is this what the spotlight in the rear window is?

The number plates are the modern type but they're not as reflective as they would've ben new. Does a car this age need to have reflective plates as I suspect they were in this condition when it passed it's last MOT?

Also,

I need an exhaust and a 24v horn. I'm near Falkirk in Scotland, any recommendations of where I should go for parts? Would the horn from an artic lorry work

get yer exhaust from paddocks, and yes a 34v electric hgv horn will work, but make sure it isnt an air over electric one

The reverse light is not part of the MOT test, as for your number plate the only criteria for a tester to look for is can the numbers and letters be read and is there any damage that could lead to the numbers or letters being misread, the reflectiveness cannot be measured so it cannot be failed for that. Hello fellow land rover owner. Ive just got my 1972 throught its MOT as for the reverseing lights they were never on the vehicle at that age. and the number plates should be the black & white ones ebays cheap got a set for £20 a pair.

That's something less to worry about then. However, the top of the driver's door was a little wobbly and was blown clean off in the storms last night

Doors are ok ,as long as you can open them from the inside and no sharpe edges ...I never heard of a wobbly door top fail the MOT...

Be carefull with number plates the black and white/silver ones can only fitted to pre 1973 vehicles...Which your is...

afaik, they dont have to, have old style plates though.

Think I'll go for the HGV horn after finding this web site Videos - HornBlasters.com . Hope it has the same effect on neds as it does on cats
