There's no battery strap on my P38 but the battery simply cannot move apart from up (Cables off) is that an MOT Failure?
Also the SRS/Airbag Red light and fault message stays on, well the message goes away by pressing the stalk but the Red light stays On, is that a failure?

SRS maybe needs a reset via Test Book or similar?

The car was like that when i bought it with a fresh MOT, so bit confused.

SRS lights on is a failure over here. Has the car had a shunt? No battery clamp should be a failure. If the car has side airbags check the underseat connectors. Otherwise get the fault codes read. Jimsnappon is up your way somewhere with irishrovers Faultmate kit.

I thought the MOT tester wanted to see all lights on & off when started but the seller of my Range said it was okay when the message in display went away when pressing the stalk even when the red SRS light stayed ON, have i been naive? (Mumbled it could be a long gone fault stored in memory but not present when message was clear-able)

There isn't side airbags installed so the fault under seat ruled out.

Never believe what the seller says...all he wants is your cash....he'll tell you anything to part with your hard earned....

if your srs light is on permanent and not flashing, check the bulb in the dash panel.
on a p38 there are 2 bulbs for the srs light the second bulb is a back up if the first one fails.
so basically if the main bulb blows then the back up bulb will come on and stay on all the time.
easy to spot as they are sat next to each other!
really really common as no one bothers to get it done also with bulbs replaced no need to plug it in and reset srs

From Jan 2012 battery must be secured. Bit daft on a P38 were you need a bloody crane to take it out. But regulations are regulations. :):):)

I thought an insecure battery was always a fail:confused: No need for the crane if the car is inverted, it drops out no problem and generally manages to short out and go bang. Quite spectacular:eek: On the P38 there should be a clamp and a cover:)

Good one, it's on constant no flashing will check that bulb, suppose it's out with the whole dash then...

No not up to Jan it wasn't. I think commercials needed to have secure batteries, but private vehicles no.

not whole dash out just need the speedo head, drop lower kick panel 4 screws by your feet pull steering column out using adjuster on the column then its just the plastic surround behind steering wheel in front of clocks, unscrew and remove dash clocks can be a fiddle but it does come out with a jiggle without removing steering wheel
