Hello,

This is just for gathering information so I can make an average of how much to save each month for my next MOT + service.

Please can all readers of this topic (Who own a discovery 300tdi or V8i(of 300tdi shape)) post their last MOT and service garage bills(Total, not just base price...including all new parts etc etc).

I just want to know what I can expect when it goes in.

p.s. Just the prices will do, I couldn't name all the stuff that was fixed in my other cars last MOT and service, So I don't expect you to remember either.

Many thanks

Richard M

In the 7 or 8 years we've had it mine's been to the garage (RCV Doncaster) twice. 1st time when we first got it for a complete, full service including cambelt, serpentine belt all oils etc and came to about £400

Second time was when we had an overheating issue when RCV diagnosed Head gasket failure, replaced a gasket, it happened again within 25 miles so the replaced a gasket and skimmed the head (When I asked to see the old gasket there was no evidence of HGF) and it happened again. So I (and a friend) diagnosed a faulty radiator/oil cooler. indeed a new radiator cured it .. the old one had almost no fins left on the engine side! So I got my money back, except for the cost of the skim ! Actually did me a good turn I guess, and cost £120 .. for which they had also thrown in a full filters and oils change (which i checked).

Most garages are different, Main Stealers will almost invariably charge the earth, mostly 'cos, I reckon, they don't want older stuff in their premises!!

I would recommend taking to a Landrover specialist if you can't do it yourself.

ok Ill keep £600-£700 in the kitty, for the MOT + service.. the extra £300 is in case something goes belly up while they MOTing it and it has to be fixed to pass it.

Does everyone agree with this figure?

Thanks

Rich

Id try and keep a grubby hand in the bank.... you wont get much change back from that...

A Monkey aint enough

Even a specialist garage charged me a small forturne to MOT & Service me Rangie some 10 years ago...

:hippie:

You don't mention type of service, i.e. Engine only (inc. belts) or a Full service (inc. changing brakes ,g-box, t-box and axle oils).

Last time I checked with my nearest indy an engine service was £250 ish, full service nearer £600. I pay £40 for an MOT.

mine is a 95 300tdi and it stands me at bout £600 done full service and welding myself allready had boot floor done when i got it so done inner wings rear arches and few other bits its in tues for ticket so may cost more yet will let you know how i get on

One of the greatest things about owning a Land Rover, particularly on older one, is that they are ideal for the diy mechanic to service and fix. Get yourself some tools, no need to lay out a fortune you can pick up stuff as you need it once you've got a basic kit, get a workshop manual and have a go yourself. You'll find most jobs are very easy and you'll save yourself a fortune. Owning a Landy and relying on a garage to do everything it needs is a good way to end up skint.

put mine in for ticket failed on a trackrod end rear antiroll bar headlight insecure and off position and a bulb in rear bumper fixed for £20 and got 12 months grace not bad

Servicing is easy, it's just an oil change engine + oil filter, diffs and transfer box also grease the props and change the air filter, antifreeze, fuel filter and plugs every five years and may be the gearbox fluid + filter.
Some replacement parts may be, I recently found the dust seal on on two of the steering ball joints had split so I replaced the ball joints again easy. Brake pads easy thats about it.
MOT £25 at the moment.
