Well given everything that I currently have on my plate at the moment, I thought I would at least get the test out of the way (one less worry so to speak). Oh so I thought. Having just popped my dad in to the wheelchair I bouled him to the hospital canteen for a bit of a treat, however the mood soon plummeted, I was devastated, you see I had just received that dreaded phone call informing me that the old girl had failed. The rear tubular outrigger on the left side was rotten, absolutely shot, in fact there was very little left of it. I've now got 10 days to figure out how I am going to replace this part and get it back to the test centre!!!!!!

Have any of you clever folk ever replaced this part, how would you weld the tubular section to the chassis. I'm assuming it would need to be a very neat seam weld.?! Also does anyone have the part number for the bolt kit that I require to connect it back up to the body.?!

As always thanks everyone.

The replacement outrigger is slightly narrower so you cut off the old outrigger and the new one fits inside the hole left in the chassis, mine took some hammering in though but took about 20 mins to fit

Have a look at this image and you'll see what I mean about the narrower diameter

Thanks! ;)
What kind of weld did you adopt.?! I'm a tad concerned about seam welding around it - I would be buggered if I blew a hole in it whilst welding it.

Can you remember which bolts you used, I can't find the part number anywhere.

Unfortunately it's currently hidden behind all this......

It's such a tight fit I think it just welded around it for show more than anything else, it's about three mil thick so there's no chance of blowing a hole through it, it took some major beating with a sledge hammer to get it to fit though and you have to remover the little bit if sill to get it to fit.

You can see the bit I had to remove in this picture, but I've since fitted rock sliders

I think I just used standard M8 or M10 bolts, nothing special

It's on going, just when anything has broke or fallen off it's been replaced or upgraded, looks strange to look at pics of it when I first had I only inherited it two and a half years ago. I think the next thing is a LED light bar but I'm also saving for a new chassis in the next eighteen months or so. It's growing on me and there's certainly something about tratters, don't know if I should say it on here but I still miss my Jeep though:eek: 2.5 diesel just doesn't compare to 5.9 petrol....

Cheers Aaron :) how's your build/s going.?! Have you ever replaced this part? My welding is not the best so I hope I can manage a neat..ish weld!!

Oooppss did I say that out loud on a Land Rover forum:eek: I'll be getting banned for that......

I agree it's just a one way money pit!! Lol
Nothing wrong with a jeep as long as it's the old WW2 Ford Wily Jeep. ;) :)

No worries mate. I have replaced one before. To be honest my welding isn't the best either, and not the best place to get into.
Although as above once covered in waxoyl/dintrol or the like you'll never know :p:eek:

Oh and my builds. Erm... I guess you could say they're going ok.
Brothers 90 is done. Well I say done. Just needs the roof painting when when I decide where to do it and when it warms up a little.

As for my 90. Well I've started doing a few bits to it again the last couple of weeks.
But it really is love/hate at the mo. One minute I'm grinning from ear to ear, the next I want to burn the chuffin' thing. (Like when I discovered the injection pump is weeping a little )
So that will be done as and when I have the enthusiasm to do so :(
So in the meantime I want another project :D Which unfortunately is proving harder than usual to find :(

Another project  you're mad lol!!! No seriously tho mate, the prices have gone mad. Recently I've seen pre 1990s in what I can only describe as age related condition advertised in excess of 4k. It's mental - good for us tho :)

Yep. I want another :). Slow and steady, which it will be now I'm working, with a steady income unlike usual. So no struggling.
Prices are no good for me :( I want to buy not sell. Prices do seem to have gone silly of late.
I'm sure their is cheap stuff out their, just a case of finding them in time before they get snapped up. I just hope they do come down a little.

I'm desperate for a series 2 wether it be a project or not, sadly I have no cash. :( I thing I might try swapping the Triumph Spitfire. :)

Good luck trying to find one when the time comes mate :)
I'm hoping something pops up sooner rather than later :(
Even if I have got a mountain of other things I need to do
