Put the 110 through it's MOT today and it failed - I had an idea it would, but one of the things (well, OK, 3 of them) have me confused.

1. Hazard Warning Tell Tale not working - I don't remember the switch lighting up when it was turned on and nothing lights on the cluster - Any Ideas?

2. Windscreen washer providing insufficient water - To be fair, I have added a second washer fluid outlet, so I have a double jet on both drivers and passenger side, but I'm guessing a blast with air will sort this out?

3.Rear reflectors - there are none and the same MOT Garage did the MOT last year and never said a word - Its a simple cure, but are there heights and locations that need to be met?

The other bits I had an idea about, but again, the description given is a little vague: Front Nearside Brake Pipe corroded - Do they mean the flexible one that fixes to the calliper? The chap doing the MOT was too busy to answer as he was logged in on another MOT.

Any theories as to how to correct the above faults 1 & 2?

Cheers

1. no idea, I know my 300 the dash indicator & trailer flash, as does the switch itself. duff lamp in the switch??

2. mines also feeding 2 outlet, buts its fine, pin in the nozzles n blast it through, check the washer bottle, it might have a load of black gunk in the bottom that wants washing out.

3. IIRC outer edge and max of 1.5M as standard they are at the bottom corners.

sorry, 250-900mm for reflectors

Hazard switch should have a bulb in it - not sure it it's replaceable

You can free windscreen washer nozzles with a needle, but pulling the pipe from the pump and blasting with air works a treat

Many thanks all... What I found funny was I had the 110 'looked over' at a Tyre & Brake place I was working at late last year. They said I needed: "All 4 discs and pads,2 tyres and rear wheel bearings" - Funny, as it only has discs on the front and all passed.....
Go figure......

I have a 1987 110 and my hazard switch doesn't illuminate or have a bulb. I only get the lights on the instrument cluster (when they worked)

This is getting silly now - went to garage to ask about this light, as I have managed to get the trailer and indicator light to 'flash' when the hazard warning switch is ON.
Apparently, this is not good enough as any Hazard Warning light should be a red triangle.
Old 110's (1990), do not have this light on the cluster, so it must light the switch, which it can't as they don't have bulbs in them!
Bloody Stupid

Well, you would of thought so, but it seems not!
Unless there is a flashing red triangle on the light cluster, no other Tell Tail sign will do!

1. There is a grain of wheat lamp in the switch, it should flash, could be a wire off it. If I remember correctly the feed for this lamp is either side of the switch - check those wires are going live when hazards are on I also think it is fed locally from a joint onto the switch loom.

2. Airline, make sure jets are clear and make sure they aim high so the water covers a good area. If the tank is dirty the pump might be clogged up - new pump time - dead easy to fix. Check the pipework, I used to have an algae infestation in mine till I filled it with bleach and pumped it all out.

3. Usually the reflectors are on the bottom outside edge of the bodywork above the rear cross-member, the older ones rivet on the new ones are self adhesive - buy two and rivet/stick them on.

For the MOTer to be TOO busy and not explain is unacceptable - they should also mark failures on brake pipes general corrosion tyres issues etc... with yellow crayon. For it to be corrosion I would expect it is the pipe really - £5/6 to get a local motor factor to make up new bits if you take in the old ones - if the flexi union is shot, for the sake of £8 I'd just do it too - these are cheap enough fixes. Often if the corrosion is bad you will wish you just bought all new bits rather than fight with stuck unions.

If you can be SURE there is no bulb in there (which you can change if there is and it's a dud) then I would take it back with everything else fixed and say, this vehicle NEVER had a flashing hazard switch. It's like failing a classic for not having indicators and seatbelts!

i scrapped my windscreen squirter and brought a T piece and some 6mm pipe,

tie wrapped the tube onto the windscreen washers and now its beautiful!

As far as I am aware the switch should have a bulb in it, mine blew once but I managed to find a replacement although it wasn't held by the usual places. Worst case is a new switch, shouldn't be necessary but they are not expensive, fitted in a couple of minutes and it saves any problems.

Single (standard) pump will handle two twin jets no bother.

My reflectors hang down on the back from the rear crossmember. I think this is fairly standard for army defenders. I cant remember what civvie spec ones look like though.

Tell tale on my 1992 90 is the trailer light flashing also - there isnt a red triangle at all. The original switch didnt have a bulb either. A replacement switch I put in did have a bulb but worked about 3 times then never flashed again.

There is a very small bulb in the hazard switch which also blew in mine. Couldn't get a replacement easily so bought new switch inc bulb from ebay. New bulb blew as soon as i tried it out but still passed doe . Anyone know how easy it is to fit a modern switch from any scrapper ?
