Just remember the MOT is the minimum requirement - it doesnt mean the vehicle is up to scratch, some of the pass values are not too clever, esp condition of brake components and corrosion on chassis etc.
I always fix or advise on the basis that I would be happy for anyone I care about,(Family friends etc)to drive a car I've fixed.Usually thats well above MOT standard....

Too true, just look at the RFR's for brake discs:confused: An MOT pass just states the vehicle met the minimum requirements at the time of test, too many people think that it means its safe for 12 months now!

for the brakes, what i do if a vehicle fails on imbabalce is take the brake shoes out flaten them off and clean them up check the pistons are not seized and that the discs arn't overly worn, put back together with some copper grease on the sliders, usually does the trick :) ooh and mot's can be done on a rolling road as long as the rollers are counter rotating and turn at less than 9 mph, ours is a new atl lane and never had a single problem with over 2000 tests

AT last :) the garage I use has a counter rotating rollers brake testing machine for at least 12 years, I also used another garage that has a "rolling road" but that was to check my improvements to another car in gaining extra BHP it then had to be strapped down for the test.
