That's right, the 300tdi failed today - the results are as follows - your opinions would be excellent! I'll put what the fail sheet says in red and the reality of each in black

1. Offside dip beam inoperable - Does work, could be seen to work but was slighltly dimmer cos of a loose connection, sorted now

2. Seat belt clasp incomplete - Plastic bit is missing, has been for 3 years and not mentioned before. He said it weakens the clasp without the plastic cover

3. Clamp holding rear and mid section exhaust pieces is rusty -

4. Rear number plate lamps dirty - not massively, still lights it up pretty good

5. Rear N/S brake disc damaged - It has a tiny piece missing from right up at the edge where no brake pad travels. No noise and passed efficiency test..

6. Plastic sockets that the headlights clip into are broken - They are cracked and still hold the lights in place just swell.

7. body mounts rusty - Forgot about them, probably the only reasonable fail issue I would say

I drove away in disbelief, slightly laughing and slightly wanting to scream. Does this seem reasonable/right for a fail sheet?

When I got home and opened the bonnet I found one of the headlight bulb rubber covers sitting just on top of the front panel next to the bonnet catch hole. And the other one is missing!? Obviously to get them off you have to unplug the lights, so what they been doing that for?

Thought they weren't allowed to tamper?

Seems a bit of a joke to me, all of those things could easily be an advisory at the most.

Yu can't appeal if you have it retested. If you want any chance of winning an MOT appeal. You need to phone Vosa in the Garage in front of the tester. Look on the testers face is always funny anorl..

If I took it somewhere else, wouldn't they see what this guys put on the fail sheet when they look it up?

Or can they say differently at their discretion even after some doink has claimed something as a fail?

Every test is down to the tester's discretion. and Pooter int gonna know if you've done the work or not. so end of day if noo tester is happy to pass it then it's not illegal. also try looking on MOTUK ,MOT's ,MOT testing centres for the online testers manual and remember if it isn't in the manual then they can't test it or fail it.

The second tester shouldn't be able to see anything about previous tests (unless he did them) as that would be against the Data Protection Act.
Rather defeats half the point of computerising things, but useful for us punters.

Really!? When I got my bike MOT'd last I forgot the certificate from before and he said that they can just bring everything up on't computer.

Good to hear that though :)

Oh yeah I forgot one -

Another fail was because the front bumper fixings have gone at the sides. Ya know the ones, the usual screw and plate just in front of each wheel that stop the corner pieces from hanging an inch lower

If you have the V5 or the last mot certificate you can go on VOSA's website and see all the previous mot details, failure and advisories

Hi Flex not sure where abouts in the world you are but if your not too far try www.motmox.co.uk they don't do repairs etc and if it doesn't pass you don't pay so no drama if it fails again.

2 fails on my MoT was a small tiger hanging off mirror and a small sticker on the passenger side windscreen at the top corner size of a credit card ( macadam cancer support fundraiser )

Rubbish, Data protection act protects personal data MoT data is not personal.

It all comes up when the tester enters ya details on the pooter doesn't it?? thought it was part of VOSA's anti fraud initiative?? to stamp out dodgy MOT's

Yeah that's what I was saying but then you said something different to that hence my question.

Or did you miss my question mark at the end of the line? :p

When I was with the Girlfriend who had a disabled daughter I dropped her off at school and then took me mundano for it's 09:15 MOT Dropped it off and came back an hr later. To be told it had failed for having a sticker in the drivers swept area?? was really confused as I didn't have any stickers anywhere on the car. Turns out I'd left the Blue disabled badge on the dash when I dropped the car off. so they'd failed me car for it. then wanted to charge me £30 for a retest  . threats of Vosa, and calls to the press weren't really working until I told him I was gonna park the bairn outside the garage in her wheelchair, and then contact the press. at which point the boss came of the office with a Mot cert for me :D

Both are legitamet fails the only stickers allowed on the windscreen are official one's ie. tax disc.

I thought stickers werent allowed intge "swept area" they should be ok outside of that; or are you saying different? Whats the ruling on this?
