Hi There,

I´m new to the forum and am taking part in an organised rally to Morroco. I have just done the event in Spring and will be taking part again in December this year. I have just got hold of a Discovery 1 300 tdi and am looking to improve the suspension - thinking of just changing all the springs and shocks for 40mm lift and probably terrafirma units - has any one else done this and got any recommendations. The journey will involve some tarmac work ( to get to Morroco ), followed by a mixture of off road tracks, some sand work - but nothing involving massive articulation. The event itself is for older vehicles in all shapes and sizes but having used a Disco already I prefer the idea of a 4x4 as I can still play with it at the weekends. If any one else is interested in joining the event let me know and I will tell you all about it. With regard to the suspension changes, the rally is not a race as such however you do have to maintain a good average speed over rough ground so I will need a system that will cope with this sort of driving style. Thanks in advance.

Unless your shocks or springs are knackered I can't see any reason to make changes, even then I would just replace with standard kit.

Thanks for the input Richard, the existing shocks and springs are not completely knackered however they are far from ´like new´condition! I will be changing them before the rally, it is just a question of whether I go for original size, or for a slightly taller set up. I will be fitting 245 / 70 / 16 tyres so I think that a little extra height will help along with the medium duty springs as the car is likely to have a fait amount of kit onboard. We take goods across for the schools and the children so never travel light !

Thanks again for the advice.

try putting this in the off road section buddy. This is the "expedition" section. More geared to questions like "what curtains should i put up in my Hannibal roof tent" ;)

If its suspension related though its probably been asked before so try the search button. ;) :D

That is a question i've been contemplating for some time... although mine's an Ironman tent not Hannibal... Hannibal's are easy... a nice pea-green curtain... but for Ironman tents... i'm not so sure...

Rally sounds cool :D
