Hello

Bit of advice please...

This is a follow up to the thread I posted on the Discovery section of this forum....

I have a S Reg, 300TDi Disco. Mileage currently 114K. I have owned it since March 2009, and have put about 50K miles on it since purchase. I change the oil & oil filter religeously every 6000 miles, except for last month.

I have three oil leaks that all started (or appeared to start) within the last 3 - 4 weeks. One is the Vacuum pump, another is the joint of one of the hoses coming off the oil filter section, and the third leak from the area of the P gasket.

This third leak (area of P gasket) is the most worrying, as the other two are easily fixed.

I cleaned the engine down with de-greaser & a jet wash, and identified that the oil leak appears to be coming from behind the air intake manifold / exhaust manifold area. Specifically it appears to be coming from just about the area of where the head gasket sits between the head & block. Which is also the point at which the air intake manifold is bolted to the head.

The engine doesn't appear to be "breathing" (crank case compression) but I can't be certain.

Last month the engine oil wa changed by a local garage, as they had a special offer on. It appears that they have over filled the engine with oil. I think they didn't drain the oil and just poured in a fresh gallon. So I have 50% or so more oil than needed.

Can the symptoms of oil from the head gasket area be caused simply by too much oil....or have I a blown head gasket...or worn piston rings...... or just that the gasket between the air intake manifold and the head is leaking oil. (It has had the EGR blanking plate fitted).

Help please !!!!!

(Am changing oil right now, clean & the correct amount!)

All comments welcome

change the oil and see how it goes. usually a little to much gets pushes through the breathers as it has no where else to go. pop the intercooler hose off aswell and get rid of any excess.

Its more than likely just the manifold gasket leaking.
The turbo will blow a small amount of oil in to the inlet manifold, so if the gaskets leaking the oil will come out.
I would just sort the gaskets where the oil is coming from and just keep driving as normal.
If you remove the oil filler cap with the engine running there should be a small amount of breathing but if the rings have gone it would blow out a lot of oil and fumes.
The mileage is not high enough for the engine to be worn out.

not wanting to be the poster of bad news, i had this when i bought the disco.
for other reasons i buggered the head gasket.
when i changed head gasket, i lost this oil leak....
