More 'leccy woes?

Yet another 'leccy problem with my D1 which I'm running out of my own idea's to solve -

Turn on the side lights with ignition off, no problem.

Turn on side lights with ignition on and the hightlights dimly illuminate. A multimeter shows 6.3v going to both lamps.

Pull the left hand side light fuse and the problems goes away.

Removed lamps and checked all connections etc and the problem is still there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Id be looking at the earths or the switch itself.

have you got dim dip fitted? stops you driving on side lights only. got it on my f reg fourtrack but not noticed it on the h reg disco

I suspect Dim-dip headlights, as above.........

On the bulkhead, just to the left of the washer-bottle (assuming its a 300tdi, I dont know much about the 200tdi), there should be a brass-coloured ballast resister. Push on the wire-clip & pull off the wire/connector. if this solves the issue, then it IS dim-dip, & wasnt a fault, but by design.
