There is an example of a dual battery setup in my electrical tutorial:

The way I do it is to take the live feed from the 2nd battery and take this to a 4 fuse common live fuse box. Then use one of these feeds to the input of a relay switched by the original ignition live and on to a second 6/10/12 fuse common live fuse box. You now have 3 permanent lives from your yellow battery and 6/10/12 ignition lives. I then feed the interior light from a permanent live off the 2nd battery, all the work lights, stereo, cigarette lighter etc. If you are using a winch this would go before the new fuse boxes. Using the above setup means that it doesn't matter if you leave things on, the car will always start.

Hello mate I've just got my disco 2 back today with a new to me engine fitted. I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow and work out my battery options once I have I'll be interested. Looking at replacing current battery and once I've worked out mounting positions and stuff a secondary battery. Will give you a shout when I've worked it out.

Hi, could you PM me a price for a battery posted to Pontefract please.
I just want a replacement battery for my series III 109 with a 2.5TD engine and no extras on the electrical system. Red or yellow? Advice appreciated

2x yellow is the more all rounder choice

But if you simply have a starter battery with no potential to deep cycle it then you might as well go for red/yellow because it makes sense

Most vehicles need to be rewired to isolate the starter battery though

Sound advice as usual Mr N;). I'll opt for the 2 x Yellow configuration as that will match my current set-up without mods. I have a trayback which doesn't get a vast amount of use.
