Hi, I recently completed an engine change in a P38.

All went well but now the car won't start or crank

Have jumped the white and red stripe wire on BECM to make it crank but there is no fuel or spark. There are no lockout or engine disabled messages on the dash. Check engine light doesn't come on.

Have changed fuse box, rechecked all grounds etc and battery has been tested

The only slight worry was on the loom where there was one wire difference between engines, we were pretty sure this was a slightly different spec between cars like electric seats.

I think it's time for mobile diagnostic but the only people close to us (RG5) near Reading are Rovertune who contrary to their website don't do mobile diagnostics.

Anyone here know of a local service to me or any forum members close to me with the software (happy to pay of course)

Help! Want to get this bad boy back on the road / off road!

That usually means the BeCM has lost sync, as Data says: you need a Nanocom or alternative diagnostic device (or a dealer) to (re)sync it

There's a map on here somewhere with people with diagnostics and their rough locations, although I'm afraid I don't know where it is, but someone will point you in the right direction :)

OK, just tried a garage who didn't have time to fit it in but are also convinced its a sync problem.

So, does anyone in my area (RG5) Reading - have a sync mate to help bring my new toy to life? Happy to pay for this. Just want to get it moving ASAP and see how good it is off road.

P.S yes it was the one on ebay a few weeks ago if anyone recognised the picture

I am having exactly same issue with my 1998 4.6 HSE. Just tried a hired sync mate but it failed to communicate with BECM. Mine cranks also and engine check light did not come on at first now its intermittent. Please update if you find a cure I will do same. Have not checked fuse box that was going to be my final idea.

Without wishing to offend or teach you to suck eggs, but you did get the right syncmate for your engine...GEMS and THOR are different...yours would be GEMS.

Check your OBDII connection under the dash, sometimes the pins corrode if it won't communicate...

Yes has g on it checked with vendor confirmed its correct but the fault I get is 1 red flash which is listed as non GEMS fault so possibly faults sync mate. Don't want to hijack Simonh102 thread, but looks like we have identical problem. All the stuff I have tried is on my thread its a big one.
