Have to admit that I had come to accept the sluggishness of my 2.5 DSE. In all other respects it is the best car I've owned but was continually hunting for a few extra BHP and avidly following any postings about others suffering the same problem.

Until today! Thanks to the Landyzone Gurus and their comments about the MAP pipe, I found that mine too was disconnected and may have been so for the 4 years since I've owned the car! Missing BHP found then!

Only difference is that I found the connection nipple under the manifold adjacent to No4 Still, it did the trick and whilst this is never going to be a roadburner the car is much more enjoyable to drive, especially when 'pressing on' a bit.

Thank you one and all!

Yes you did, we thought you'd nicked them.:p:p:D

I drove around for over 2 years with a broken MAP, reverse was really bad, wouldn't even drive up a kerb, roundabouts were a bloody nightmare

Intercooler clean-out sounds like a good call. Anything affecting air flow sounds like a logical gain. Reckon it is a bit of a potch though, so It will have to go on my to-do list for better weather.
What's the best stuff to clean it with? I'm thinking Traffic Film Remover or paraffin.

I was told to use acetone and leave it overnight, and give it a good shake

The old owner of mine used petrol and a bog brush?!!
By the time he'd finished he was black bright with a clean manifold. There originally was 3mm of crap inside the manifold.. Egr dust and the oil film from rocker cover and turbo weep. It sounded like a fire engine when it started up. Nice and crisp. :D

Acetone, I used petrol. You plugged it up and left overnight (this also shows up leaks), then kept flushing it through with the dirty petrol - it gets blacker and blackerer, when I was happy I did it again with fresh.

Make sure it is entirely dry until refitting!!
You have been warned ;)

You didn't try drying yours with a lighter/eyebrow remover did you?:D
