2004 freelander 2.0Tdi HSE. Bought as a distress purchase (ie heavy snow) last winter for the wife I always thought that the cabin was colder than it should be.
Having ascertained that there is a FBH fitted (I can see the little exhaust pipe in front of the wheel and it was also listed on the dealer spec printout as fitted) I resolved to have it working before the next winter arrived. Having spent many happy nightshifts over the summer trawling the net - this forum and others -, reading Haynes and perusing my Rave CD I felt fully equipped knowledge wise to tackle the job, fingers crossed that it would just be the outside air temp either faulty or out of range and never replaced under the TSB relating to it, simply short it out, reset it via fuse 5 to check it is running and then either fit a new sensor or perhaps a switch that can be operated from the cabin. Well imagine my surprise when I took off the front bumper this morning (easy enough apart from the usual seized screws) to find an empty circular holder but no sensor and more importantly no wiring harness in the area that it should be. I have two questions that I hope you might be able to help me with , 1) In production was the sensor ever located anywhere else than on the bumper? and 2) was it ever known that LR would part fit the system but not include all parts for it to operate ( reason I ask this is that I had a RR vogue SE (V8) that had most of the cruise control, including the actuator etc fitted but no switches or loom etc, mystifying).
One final question, has anyone else come across this situation??
I could burn it but I dont smoke so have no swan vestas:mad:
Hang on, poking around underneath I have found a harness that looked like it was going somewhere but had just been stuck back in to the engine bay.....just gonna fiddle a bit further...

:blabla:Stuck a mazda/ford type fuse in the multiplug to short it and hey presto!, FBH running lovely, hmmm ..to fit a sensor or a switch...

We rigged up switches to both activate the FBH and the blower fan relay without the engine running. This allows the system to be activated a few minutes before driving off to both pre-heat the engine and the cab in very cold weather.

:blabla:Have decided to go the oe sensor route. If I fit a switch, which is what I would do for myself if I was the regular user of this car, my dizzy blonde Mrs would no doubt switch it on now and I would find it still running next July during which time she would no doubt complain that the aircon was not working....;)
