Misfiring disco td5

Hi folks, I'm a newbie to this forum and have a little problem I wonder if anyone can shed a light on.
After taking my dogs out I returned to my lands chucked them in and headed of home which is up a fairly steep hill. The fuel light came on and I continued the 4 or 5 miles home where I filled up. The Landry has now developed a misfire when at operating temperature. I've changed the fuel filt, I've had the pump out of the tank and cleaned it and run through the bleeding process all to no avail. In the morning she starts and drives fine but when I stop and go to restart she starts fine but then immediately starts to misfire like she's only running on three cylinders. I'm now scratching my head and wondering was it because I was low on fuel or is it something else. I had noticed my fuel filter was very hot but I understand this is normal behaviour for a td5 . Someone help me please

check coolant is full by removing the bleed screw in top hose and filler cap it should flow out of bleed , check injector harness connector under front of rocker box drivers side for signs of wetness ie oil

Thank you, I can understand the harness possibly causing a misfire but why would a low coolant level? Although this is ok. I will check the harness

probably thinking cylinder head leak ,
check for oil in the harness at the ecu end, save you taking off the rocker cover

Not long after I bought my 2004 defender TD5 (privately) in 2006 I started to get intermittent mis-fire, same as yours, felt like it was running on 3 cylinders, As it was intermittent it never showed up when I took it in to get checked, had the injector harness changed but it was still happening, the fuel gauge was not working when I got the car and as it was still under warranty they (Landrover) changed the fuel pump/sender unit but said they still could not detect any miss fire on testing, but since the fuel pump was changed I have never had a problem, my mate had the same problem and his was also the fuel pump at fault.

Thanks for that I've just checked the harness and yes there is lots of oil in there and no matter how much I try to dry it out , it won't. Do you think it just needs a new injector harness? How does the oil get in there?

It will need a new harness.
Oil is drawn up the harness through capillary action, travels along the wires between the wire and the sheath. Or witchcraft. No I'm sure it's just physics..

I changed my harness when I had same issue and cleaned the red plug on ECU with electrical contact cleaner. It took a few goes over a couple of days to fully clean the plug but I kept driving it meanwhile with no problems. It's an easy job just make sure you replace the rocker gasket and 13 grommets

He's got a good channel with a playlist on poor starting fault finding for td5

Thank you so much I've checked out a you tube video on changing and cleaning and have ordered a new harness and gaskets so fingers crossed.

when you refit the gasket just check the rear of the rocker and make sure the gasket goes into place properly at the cam shaft bit , it took me 4 goes to get it to seat properly
