hi all first time rr owner, and bought a 98 4.6 with a bad misfire, then found out someone had changed the right hand cylinder head gasket so the car wont start just misfires stright out the air intake it actually sounds like the timing is out any help greatly accepted

i think so i followed the numbers on the coilpack and matched them to the cyl numbers is that how it should be done?

would they need to be done after the head was replaced the reason im asking is the two guys that done it were not lr specialists and the previous owners found one of them having forty winks in the back seat, what is the correct positions of the leads thanks in advance

hydraulic tappets or followers are self adjusting they keep gap in rockers to minimum,if faulty they tap ,can take time to quieten when first fitted, they are a small piston in tube thats fed with oil, check your leads first

i will check the leads as soon as i finish work tomorrow thanks once again,so would there be any thing they could have buggered up while they were in there crank sensor,or inlet gaskets as you will have im clueless with these cars

Do a compression test. All will be revealed, or not as the case maybe. Hydraulic tappets cannot stick open, they cannot expand in use more than the heel of the cam allows. However they do tend to expand when weight is taken off them, if the planks who fitted the head have not depressed them before refitting the head they could have caused a valve to piston strike.

hey wammers you might have something there cause when i turned her over today it looked like fuel was coming out from just under the valve spring and so when i seen that i just took the head off to have a look, the head has been skimmed but one of the ports on the gasket had its metal protection ring bent over twice im no expert but would that cause me to loose compression and the mis fire through the intake
