Ah... so, is there any reason whatsoever why I should not fit the blanking plate? I can't think of one...

and is there anything else I should consider doing at the same time (i.e. is it pointless fitting the blanking plate without cleaning out part of something else, for example?)

So i just phoned my local official Land Rover dealer's part department and they had no idea. He knew what the EGR was, but had never heard of it being blanked off and couldn't find any parts even related to doing that job!

I only phoned for a parts price comparison... but they couldn't find the parts! Maybe third party is the only way to go!

As its not an official Landrover part its not surprising they dont have it.;)

Ah... i'm sure I read somewhere that it's actually cheaper to buy the part direct from LR instead of going to eBay. That's the only reason i phoned!

I'll go third party in that case, then (unless it turns out it's already been fitted by the previous owner!)

I blanked mine with a 2 pence piece-fit it in the join between small flexi pipe from egr and manifold-undo this joint, the flange gasket has a large bore-2 p fits here snug-the bore in the pipe is much smaller,so the 2p cannot wander off anywhere, reconnect pipe-job done, cheap as chips

So, by simply blocking this pipe, does it not affect the ECU or turbo in any way? I imagine it does slightly because the quantity and/or quality of the air and the places the air comes from has now changed...

Mines a D1 300tdi, its too dumb to worry about air mass etc - no ECU's etc, its a basic diesel lump, just pump the air/fuel in and away it goes.

It does worry about low turbo boost as that controls fuel boost, mine was zero but she still drove acceptably well!!

so it really is that simple... block the valve (at the manifold end, I believe), clean the pipes, intercooler and manifold and that's it!

Out of interest, can one easily monitor turbo boost?

Also, while we're on that topic, is there a standard route to get wires from the engine bay into the cab or do i just need to drill a hole and fill it afterwards? The reason I ask is that I'd like to hook up a cigarette lighter socket or two that don't require the ignition to be on to be usable (for charging batteries, phones etc... while away from the vehicle).

is the boost gauge a LR part of third party? i.e. should i look on eBay or is my local non-official Land Rover place likely to have some in stock?

Also, I assume it gets it reading from the engine bay, but mounts in the cab, right? How do I therefore get the wire through the bulkhead?

Its 3rd party, ebay.

Its a pipe that runs from the t-piece on the turbo to the gauge. I only had my one fitted temporary, the wife was holding it while i was driving :)

There must be a hole somewhere in the bulkhead - its a landrover :)

if there's a hole in the bulkhead, won't that allow water in while wading??

I've read one or two wading guides, and none of them mention blocking up holes to keep water out of the cab!

I reckon you lot deliberately miss that part out of the guides you write to laugh at us "newbies" when we plough into 5 ft of water only to find we're up to our necks inside the cab!

I was going to attempt to make my door seals work perfectly, but even if I do, that won't keep the water out, will it!

5ft? If your going to go through deep water your gonna get water in... I went through ruts full of water nowhere near the bottom of the doors 20 gallon of it came in through the bulkhead  well i imagine through the vent anyroads
