milage

Ok so looked at a few discos let's talk mileage shoul I be put off with say 160000 a few nice ones some with not a lot of history fsh commands a few pennys extra and its not a huge budget ive got £3000 dont mind a bit of work what millage do you guys have and would 160000 ish put you off

I wouldn't not buy one with 160k if the price was right.
However, If I had a choice, I wouldn't go much above 130k.

History and any other work that's been carried out/receipts etc to prove comes into play too IMO.
Typically speaking, it will be easier to sell on one with 120k and not 160k.
But also depends how long you intend on keeping it for.
It all comes down to the £££ !

my v8 is 163000 on an x reg, as long as they have the receipts too match the work I wouldn't worry,i regulary do oil and filter changes etc as long as its looked after it will be a good car,

My 300tdi currently has 165000 miles showing, is my only car so is used every day and I am researching a 2 month long, round Europe route for next summer which should see about another 5000 miles added. I have not once considered that my car would not be anything but the pinnacle of reliability that it has been for the past 3 years. 160000? just run in. On the other hand I have spent a bloody fortune on it :biggrin1:

Can't speak for V8's, but a well looked after TD5 should be good for 250,000 miles. Service history quite important here.

Mine has 154,000 (bought a year ago at 147,000) and I hope to still have it in 10 years time. It gets used every day.

Whatever you get, service it regularly and use good quality oil. Plenty of advice on here.

wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, look at the service history and receipts if poss,
if it has been cared for, more important look at the rear part of the chassis!!!

Thanks for the info guys been looking for a while aint rushing into anything its just ive been tempted by a few high millage td5 s or do i wait till summer next year more money and besttime to buy .prob is I get my landrover oldest daughter gets my peugeot 2nd daughter gets oldests polo and her car gets scrapped and we all know they want everything as soon as lol

Personally I dont think mileage matters so long as its been looked after. My old M reg 300tdi had 162k on it, and the speedo had stopped working for some time so it probably should have been higher.

If its been well maintained and it isnt falling to bits, dont let mileage put you off.

We've had our D2 TD5 since 2007 @ 25k miles and now we are at 140k miles, she has only been out of action twice, for a failed clutch master cylinder and a split fuel hose (which was my fault). Apart from that, the garage has down the following: changed a steering system flexi hose, changed the brake fluid and cleared a spurious alarm on the ABS. My list is a little longer: changed radiator, starter motor, 2 door locks, fuel pressure regulator, injector wiring harness, steering box, rear diff (not as hard as it sounds). I moved to Australia 3 years ago and we brought Daisy with us. On the run from Sydney to Canberra I am getting 9.5L/100km @ a steady 110km (and you dare not speed out here) which works out to about 30mpg @ 70 mph - the owner manual quotes 9.4L/100km combined. She's had her moments but the engine, structure and mechanics are solid (though I reckon the clutch is living on borrowed time...) and the interior scrubs up a treat, quite an achievement with 4 kids. I service her myself every 6000 miles/10000km and it takes about 2 hours. Daisy is our 3rd Land Rover and 2nd Discovery. As long as I can keep abreast of the maintenance we'll be fine and since I regard taking perfectly serviceable cars to pieces as a hobby it's not all bad. There is stack of advice out there and parts are plentiful and prices are competitive. Get some spanners and you will be fine. If you get stuck then this forum and others will be able to help and in 9 out of 10 situations the news will not be as grim as you fear.
