middle box

hi just bought a middle box for my disco 2.4 td on a j plate, came to fit it and it is wrong,although ive been assured it is the correct 1, by my suplier, problem is the new one has the plates which pull the rounded end into the flanged end on both ends but mine on the car has that fitting on 1 side and a push in fitting which tightens with a u bolt on the other, so i m totally baffled............ as ive been told there is only one kind?

just looked at my mates disco n his exhaust is same as mine so this new one wouldnt fit his either going to have to go to the shop

There's no such thing as a 2.4td long wheelbase Disco ....

But you're right about the centre box, it's the flange at the engine end and push in at the rear end.

cant understand why this guy is telling me this is the only disco exhaust when ive seen 2 that arent the same, someone just told me that they have given me the exhaust for a 300, oh lwb i was still in pajero mode.......
im gunna get mad wi this guy soon

For the middle silencer I've had an enormous oval one which clanked the chassis rails at low speed, a cylindrical one that was way smaller but rotted within a year and another oval of a different size again ... but which also still clanged on the chassis a little due to me simply not fitting it properly, didn't have the time at the time! Now it's straight through it's fine ...

Want an oval centre silencer? £15 + postage but underground railway might get it to you FOC too.

Five minutes and I'll put a few pics up .. 6 months old, bought as a stop-gap until I got a striahg through ..

Next pic shows scuffing/rubbing on chassis rails ... two little marks on the widest part of the oval silencer box .. with a proper fitting it wouldn't happen, but I rushed it ..

yeah thats same as mine, still problem is i already bought one that suplier says is right one and are willing to change it but are saying that it is right and there is only 1 kind

but if i get no joy i may get back in touch with you

There was...I have seen two 200's with a LWB and both five door, one was an Ambulance and the other had Texaco Oil Exploration stickers all over it.
Although this was back around 1991-2 I took a photo of the Texaco one as it was brand new and sent it to LRO but it was never shown in the mag.
Where are they now I wonder.

On all TDI models from 1989 to 1998 the middle section box always had a mandrel/flange at the front end and a slip-in fit at the rear.

The only Disco's I know of that have a mid box with a flange at both ends is for TD5 Disco's from late 1998 to 2003.

Tell them to get their shît together, the muppets.
