i have 900X16 xcl's on my 90 superb tyre, the fronts were ok except reeduced turning circle. Rears will hit the rear tub so extended bumpstops are required

at work so cant find a link but if you trawl through herts laners a fair few pages about 10 at a guess there are some pics

Jai, whats the true size of those? around 36"? Just bought some 7.50 XCL's for my lightweight :D

We have the XZL's at work on our 110's (7.50) and they are pretty good offroad. Onroad is good to for an MT.

xcl's tend to be tall and skinny my 900's were 37 inchs or as good as new the rest are about 36 inch. As you may already be aware just because a tyre has 35x12.50x16 doesn't always equate to 35 inch true size they are more often than not more like 33 inch true size.
I measured a 33 the other day came up to 31.5 inch.

As a general rule i use this
205 about 28 inch,
750's about 30/31 inch,
My 750 xcls were quite tall i think 31 or nearly 32 but off hand i cant remember

Hey griffdowg,
What do you think to running these xcl pattern tyres in sand I would imagine soft sand a nightmare. I have used xcl's when trialling and they were superb at the local brickhill site lots of sand but would be inteerested in your experience and thoughts

I do want to take my landy to North Africa after I change all the bushes for genuine ones and get it more sound proofed.

I dunno Jai, Not fitted them to the Lightweight yet. The wheels need a coat of NATO green 1st :D but I got no time now, off to the Alps a week Saturday so preparing the 90.

Know what you mean about narrow. I think, aired down they wont be much different to a standard MT style tread. due to their more open pattern I would imagine they will dig slightly deeper faster than an MT. their ply rating will also help airing down (good sidewall strength) to increase floatation.

I didnt have any trouble with my BFG MT's in Morocco. Never really got into super soft stuff, never had to dig my way out either. you can usually back out. If your getting stuck, then you just need to jump on the clutch a bit quicker to prevent them digging you down really quick. admit defeat sooner than those running AT's!

i know we used to run bar grips and xcls with tubes down to 11psi and 9psi in
Wales exellent really. They are both absolute cack if you push them in the wet on tarmac tho.

I do think you will need a lower ratio
transfer box for the 110 these are heavy and have a huge difference in gearing all that said if you have a 1.6 box it may be fine in high range. Offroad not much cop neither unless you gearing is suited. Recently went to Derbyshire and drove down Chapplegate. What a fantastic drive although for rock crawling 1st low is stupidly high with these tyres. I am currently running a 200tdi in my 90 with a disco 1.2 transfer box and 3.5 diffs and its horrendus to drive with these tyres. I have purchased a set of 4.7 axles from a 110 inc salisbury. Salisburys of this kind are rare as. I will be using 4:7 diffs and the rear detroit from my existing salisbury this should make my low range half decent again as its crap at the moment as is the high range with the even higher transfer box.

Jai,
Here's XCL's being used in sand, aired down on a unimog. Seem to do the job. When I was in Oman, the military trucks were on XCLs without problems.
