Hi all, my very first post!

I've been very happy with the Michelin XPC tyres on my Discovery - they last for ever. I've owned the Discovery since new (1995) - first set did around 50,000 miles, I'm now on around 104,000 and really need to start thinking about changing them.

I found that when I replaced the tyres on my Freelander they had been superseded by Synchrones, so had to go with them.
I was already to buy a set of them, but it seems these are already finished and have been replaced by Latitude!

Seeing these in the flesh they look like pure road tyres.
Has anyone got any experience of these?

The Michelin website still lists Synchrone, but no one seems to be able to get them. Can anyone tell me what tyres a new Disco/Freelander comes with these days? I've tried the Land Rover website but they don't seem to list this.

Thanks in advance.

Same problem with my freelander thats why im gonna change to bf goodrich AT2s , i like the michelins but you cant get them anymore so no probs, check out At2s they seem to have a good life and excellent off road capabilities.

Tatooboo you wanna get yeh avatar checked for Rabies!

I got a full set of synchrones last year (for the road) 15k later they are still like new, they are not rated for the wet but I've never had any probs and as far as I know you can still get em out here (France).

My TD5 had Michelin Synchrone's when I purchased it (new in 2002).

They lasted till 70,000 miles.

Then I changed to BFG AT's. 46,000 miles later they're still like new. A bit of snow at the weekend, and they behave as if they were new. BFG AT's are the only tyre I would put on a Landy... Good on the road, and seem OK for snow/green lanes. You can buy cheaper tyres, but these are great value if you are keeping the vehicle for a long time.

Stick with the Michelins. I have and I know they aint cheap but they seem to be the best on heavy trucks with demanding suspension like Land Rovers etc. The Jap tires don't last here in NZ. Our roads are too tough.

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, I would like to stick with Michelin hence the post. But I've seen the Latitude tyres and don't like them.

If I could get a set of XPC or Synchone I would be happy.

I've contacted Michelin as many sites still list Synchone - they say they haven't been discontinued but every time my local dealers (tried a few) contact Michelin for stock they only get offered Latitudes!

I've written back asked where I can buy them. Waiting for a reply.

As I'm getting desperate I've started looking at "Goodyear Wrangler HP All Weather" these seem to have a very similar tread pattern to the Synchrones. I think these may have been original equipment to some vehicles (Range Rover)?

Any advice or comments appreciated before I buy a set...

Hi b4dgr,
I'm still sticking to Goodyear Eagle GT+4 the front ones were changed at 30k and the rear at 33k still had a bit of tread left, but if there was some snow I would have a problem.
GT+4 is (80% road) so no problems in the wet or in the off roading (only wet/dry tracks) that I do when I go to the Yorkshire moors.

HP is a 90% road tyre.

Regards
