Me Again,

Never mind being gutless my diesel/manual P38 had a new game to play tonight,,,,,,,,,,,, it wouldnt down change from 5th to fourth, kept trying to climb into reverse, i yanked it clear and into nutral but the stick now only moves sideways and wont select any gear..... im sure its a selector/rod prob,,,, thing is ive only had it 10 days and my manual hasnt arrived,, what i ned to know is ,,, is it much of a job to drop the box,,, only ever done a SIII box in the past,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 10 days in and im wishing i had my 110 back

you should never yank manual stick it can slip between selectors ,ive wrote how to put right earlier somewhere, original problem was most likey bias adjusters one either side of selector extension housing look like big adjusting screw, they have spring and ball held in by crimed end ,this breaks letting system jam

Thanks James, I think thats what has happend, before it went belly up there has been lots of slack in the stick in the 3rd and 4th position making both hard to find up shifts or down shifts. Assuming thats what it is ,, do i need to drop the box and if so how bigger job is it ,,, im working alone with just a box of spanners and a big hammer,,,,, cheers Tom

i would undo cross member and drop box a bit remove center consol parts and remove panel to get at gear box top undo 4 x bolt holding extension top to gearbox remove turn upside down and remove tin cover ,while top off try selecting gear with screw driver etc and hope not jammed in box if is i will explain then

Tractors are good fun on the gooseneck,,,,,,,,, lol ,,, i used to race F1 sidecar, still got the bike nice bit of kit, tubular Baker with Lee Moss R1 motors

James, my man ,,, did i have fun with that gearbox,,, 8 hours and 120 quid later its still where it was ,,, i eventualy sorted out the jigsaw consol lol,,, and freed the cover plate, so far so good,, then thought aar ill need my trolley jack under the cross member,, oooops silly me it was in me 110 when it was nicked,, off to machinemart card in hand,,,,,,, ok jack sorted. as i had to disconect the hand brake went into he grage to get my wheel chocks,,,,,,,,,,,,,, again oooops there were on holiday with the trolley jack. Whispering words of endearment i got a couple of house bricks,,, now all ready for a full on attack of the crossmember bolts, all 8 were rounded and been super glued so tight the socket spanner cracked,,,, not a prob i have another 15mm socket,,,,,, in ,,, the,,,,,,,,,,, cubbybox,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,in ,,you guest it the 110..... By now im ready for a coffee and a fag,,,,, sat down to reflect on all this to find my springer dog stuck up my springer bitch,,,, who just happens to be in season,,,,,, the lasts few day have been worthy of John Clees,,,,,,,, Me Basil, you P38 , this smack on head lol lol lol lol

has freeing top given you your gears back, i should have mentioned that the side pieces of concol come out of front with a good downward whack with your hand the rest is just screws, put tunnel plate in location before jacking box up it doesnt need fastening in place at that time just hard to thread under tunnel with box up

Hello mate no nothing has freed up, ive had a look at the bias adjusters, springs not broken but r/h adjuster seems badly worn with a about 30% of its leading edge missing ( enough for the ball to rock about, also ball seats on lever seem badly worn, i think this is enought to give the sloppy stick feel,,, now having looked as far into the box as i can it looks like the frist selector fork you come to has moved back down the shaft about 3 to 4 mm, it looks like its popped out fo its seating groove, again this looks enough to jam the shaft,, just above the fork theres a blanking plate that looks like it may give access to the fork grub screw,, if i make a short screwdriver with a hexigon head i think i get slacken the screw and see if it frees up,,,,,,,,,, fingers crossed,,,,,

the selector fork you can see is 5th and reverse with 5th been the rear most o n ali housing top is the interlock retainer held with 1 bolt you might be able to relocate interlock spool that fork slot sits over

youve lost me now ,,,,,, my idea was to slacken the grub screww and see if i could gently tap it back into place lol i sooooooo dont want to drop the box if i can help it.

ps, it was between 5th and reverse i had the probs

pps, just had a pumbers camera in the box, couldnt see much but the 5th selector fork hasnt moved, not looking good is it

fork sits over synchro hub that goes forward for reverse backwards for 5th arond shaft is interlock spool held in place by the retainer fastened through top of box fork has slot that sits over interlock spool shaft has pin that slides through spool and fork rotationally and should only move forward backwards when lined up in slot ,needs to be when whole box in neural selector will rock rotationally
