Hi Folks

Just had an interesting experience...

Thought the brakes were binding on a drive... landy was braking by its self and the drums getting hot... could hear them squeeling slightly

Pulled over... everything locked up tight. Brake pedal didn't budge, it was solid stuck at the top and landy wouldn't move (forward or backward)

I jacked the corners up and tapped the drums with soft headed hammer. Appeared to clear it, but on the drive back it was getting worse again and brake pedal got stiffer again.

I am now thinking that something is not releasing the brakes correctly.

I am fairly sure the shoes are adjusted correctly, have rechecked them.

I think it has something to do with the master cylinder, looking in the haynes manual... could my piston spring have snapped ?? or pushrod adjusted wrong ?

Just want to get some opinions in before I start taking it apart.

Thanks in advance.

Check the brake light switch isn't holding the pedal down - I've had one work loose and lock up the brakes. Then check the pushrod to make sure there's some clearance. If these are both OK it's probably the master cylinder.

Yes this is exactly what happened to mine the other day, new seal kit from Bearmach for 1.49 fit it bleed it now really good brakes and no longer hanging on.
I had to deadjust mine slightly and not use the brakes at all to get home.
I bought two seal kits in case i buggered one up when fitting it.

We have had trouble with brakes sticking and no real reason why.
have you taken out the shoes and ground the edges? that helps loads!

I would inspect each corner before assuming the master cylinder. My brakes were locking up and it turned out to be a dodgy backplate which disintegrated.

check the flexy hoses as well if its just the fronts plaing up as i've had them collapse inside and act as a one way valve..

Hi Folks

Just a quick follow up, turned out to be master cylinder as suspected.

Replaced it with an oem part.

With the old one on the table, I can see that the pushrod doesn't return fully extended,
also took the opportunity to replace the flexi pipes, tho the old ones look sound.

So great to have the landy driving sane again

Thanks for all the advice guys

Cheers
