Seems i have a rather bad water leak.

Been to Sheffield tonight to pick a bike up with my brother.
We pulled in at Donny Servs so my nephew could have a pee.
Got out for a smoke (being responsible). Dave had been for a pee too.

Seems to me it is coming out the water pump (i think). From Doncaster to Sheffield it took 2l of water. Then from Sheff to Grimsby it, had another 5l.

Is this a common problem?

Hoping it is just a loose hose (recently replaced the one from rad bottom to pump.)

If not it is Yaris power (or not) tomorrow.

Sounds like the 'P' gasket behind the water pump housing. Just done mine, not too bad to do. I was advised that the metal gaskets are best but at it happens that's the only type my motor factors stocked anyway.

That is what i was hoping.
Couldn't see properly, but the alternator was wet.

If it is the gasket, would i have to remove the serpentine belt to get the housing off?

I would check the hoses again as they can sometimes be a bugger to line up and tighten, mine still leaked from the bottom hose until I got it on properly. P gasket is a piece of ****. Drain coolant, remove hoses from water pump, carefully (and I mean carefully otherwise you might shear a bolt cos they have a habit of seizing) loosen the bolts around the water pump and remove it. You'll probably have to scrape off the old gasket but it's just a case of fitting new gasket and putting back together. Never heard of a metal P gasket before

Just had a look on the computer here at work.
From what it says the water pump is on a different, belt.
Is that right?

Autodata.

Really not wanting to screw around with anything that could mess up the timing.

Driving a Yaris today, because of this. So don't want to be driving it for much longer.

You don't even have to touch the timing belt. Do you know the difference between the fan belt and the timing belt? If not then put it into a garage

Sorry i was lead to believe that it was all one belt.
Which is why i asked about that.

If it is just a case of, whip the belt off, and take the pump out i can do that.

I've rebuilt engines before, but never done timing and stuff.

Thank god for that.

Yes it is a 300tdi 2.5 '96.

That was my only problem, with doing stuff like this. I am more of a bike mech and reprogrammer. Not timing and stuff.

I assumed it was a 200 due to it being a disco 1? Perhaps not. Either way timing is heehaw to do with it.

How are you anyway pollack?
I'm good cheers sweaty, just counting the days for Xmas hols, I truly hate kids. And by the by all my discos were disco ones and all 300s is only the really old knackered ones that are 200s. ;)

You love em really ;) especially the 19 year old female Polish ones :D.
I would have said in the past that 200 is by far the better engine but I have seen the light!

Been diagnosed as the water pump. Picked up a new one.
Got everything stripped down. Last 3 bolts on the pump have been rounded off. Looks like dip**** who i bought it off knew their was a leak and just cranked them up as hard as he could to stop it.

that might be a try to help p gasket leak but wouldnt do anything for water pump

hows that work ,you cant do one without the other

The top ones came out easy as pie with a 1/4in drive, the last 3 wouldn't even let the socket grip.

I can rebuild them. But i leave the timing up to my dad. Rather not waste all the time and money on a rebuild to screw it up.
