I have had a stud on my 2.25l petrol cylinder head stripped out. Its not the stud but the hole in the edit: cylinder head (not manifold) that is stripped. If i remember the (edit) cylinder head is somewhat chipped out at that stud hole, well it has a exhaust leak at that spot, I think it has finally eaten throgh the maifold gasket on a couple cylinders (intake/exhaust) I need to deal with this.
The book says-> 5/16th unf thread 36mm long (252622 x 8) or (252622 x 5 + 252623 x 3 heat shield )
Not much on my Landy is metric so I think the above is the right stud, the next size up I assume is 3/8"
So could someone tell me if they would advise to drill out bad stud hole to 3/8" and run a 3/8" unf tap in it? Then buy corrispoding 3/8" unf stud? And drill out hole in manifold to allow 3/8 as well?

I don't want to get in over my head, I have not had very much free time lately. Also does anybody know a good place to order a decent Zenith Carb that is not affected by the Zenith Warp issue?

5/16 is very close to M8, and M8 helicoil kits are pretty cheap so why not try that?

Yes, I'd try the helicoil first. Your best bet on the Zenith is to get a secondhand one from eBay and get a refurb kit for it. I've seen the carbs for less than £50 but take a good look at the photos before you buy, they made changes to the linkage over the years and the fuel inlet is different on some too.
