Hi all,

In the past I think to have said somewhere to use lineseedoil as a very good and not expensive product to clean the plastic trim on the car. Hereafter a picture of mine after I treated it well for the winter. (I am sure I can't compete in the 'muddiest' Hippo contest with it, can I ??:D ) Anyway, the car is 6 years old, thus not straight from the showroom, finished it waxing etc.. and the plastic trim, fenders and rearview mirror housing, whiper mechanism etc.. I treated with the lineseedoil to remove all the white deposit and also to give it a brandnew look again. I know someone asked before what to use on the plastic but I can't remember where (on which forum?), but as I also know most of you are fond of pictures :D :D I took my chance here... (left small pic. shows the rearivewmirror housing in detail plus a part of the fender, the main pic. shows front view where you have an overall view as how it "can" look after 6 years, at no cost (or almost at no cost) at all.

Its ok dont panick . . . .gulp , , ,er Porky put out, bit ah scotchbrite and it'll look as good as new, er Mondo take Willo in the pub and pour him a stiff brandy, he's gone all white . . .:D

I recently discovered that the previous owner spray-painted all the plastinc bumpers but negelcted to use primer ..... it's now started peeling off the rear plastic trim and look awful.

Does anyone know the best way to remove the paint from plastic trim so that I can get it re-painted "properly".
Cheers

Simon. . .very difficult this one, but try this on a bit as a a test only, and on a bit that will not be seen, buy some universal brake fluid, have a bucket of hot water with fairy liquid in, a sponge , wear rubber gloves and ,dont get any in yer eyes, apply the brake fluid on a small bit , after bout 2=3hrs it should bubble, wash orft with the soapy water, this should give you the reaction time of the bubling, dont go beyond that time as you will melt the plastic, when happy with yer time do it in metre stages or wot yer can handle, paint stipper is to fast for plastic, hope this elps ya. . . .:)

And thats just linseed oil you used?

Where ? Where ? Quick, tell me.....

And yes, just linseedoil (on the plastic that is of course) the body I did with Lamont polish (some years back a guy sold me 3l of it outside on a department store parking, he said he worked at Lamont so I guess he pinched it but as I got it for a good price .... than I gave it a treat with an old Mercedes product I still had since about 10 years during my 190E period and when all that was done I went over the plastics with the oil.)

Hi mondo,

Roughly translated it says:"with the fingers in the nose" (piece of cake).
