Hi All
A friend of mine has just had his td5 serviced at main agents (96,000) mile service although its only done 50k and they changed the oil and rotor but not the spin on ,is this normal practise ? they serviced it last time too and we noticed the filter is a fram and he was under the impression he was buying genuine parts the air filter is black and also fram should they change that on 96k service , they charged him £3.41 for brake fluid and the lid doesn't look to have been off, any ideas or experiences please

thanks

as to the filter should be a genuine lr 1 not patented parts
the spin off filter is only once a year the rotory 1 is every change (every 6 months)

The TD5 Disco says to change the engine oil and centrifuge every 12,000 miles, and the spin-off filter only every 36,000 miles.

How stupid is that?

My TD5 uses Tractor Universal oil in the engine, and has done since the day I bought it about 50,000 miles ago. I changed the oil this very day, and every time I change the oil I fit a new full-flow spin-off filter. At £4 who cares? I change the centrifuge about every second oil change. I changed it today. I cut it open and Discomania took pics of the crap it had collected.

Forget all about fancy oils that last twice as long. All they do is keep the filth and abrasives inside your engine twice as long. Drain out the oil and you physically remove all the crap with it. Clean new TUO costs well under £2 a litre, and it's a BETTER grade of oil than most of the fancy branded stuff at eight or ten times the price.

There MAY be honest sensible main dealers about but generally speaking they are only interested in vehicles up to three years old. So their mechanics probably know nothing of the TD5. Don't know where you are but would strongle recommend a local Indy dealer, even though the TD5 is a much more complex car to fix than earlier models. I drive 50 miles to my mechanic, and I reckon it's worth the time (and the train journey back).

Either that or learn to do it yourself, then you'll know exactly what has been done.

Oil and filter changes are not complicated to do on any LR product.
