Hi
I currently own a MY14 Freelander2. The NS headlamp will not move from dipped to main beam as I believe the motor that operates the shutter has stopped working. Has anyone had this issue and discovered a work around. The motor is not a serviceable item apparently so a replacement headlamp unit is what I am advised is the solution coming in at £1k. Any advice appreciated.
Thank you.

Yep the facelifted FL2 with the headlamps with running lights etc has only one bulb. When you operate dipped to main and vice versa a shutter operates within the lamp unit which alters the beam.
Well, I never knew that. It seems a lot of complicated engineering to change from the tried and tested two filament bulb.

Unless you can strip the headlamp unit down and repair the shutter motor, then you'll have little alternative but replace the unit, be that with a second hand unit or a new one.

It could well be. Have you pull the headlamp unit apart to find out if it can be repaired?
Hi, my cousin is a Volvo trained technician and he has looked at the headlight. It would be possible to replace the motor but cannot source one from anywhere. LR don’t supply it as it’s not a serviceable item. Their answer is to replace the whole unit which is ridiculous for not being able to select main beam on one unit. Screwed either way as it will not pass an MOT. Pretty poor situation for a car that isn’t t 5 years old yet!

There will always be a failure of any part. Before you condem the Freelander 2 and land rover int general... Take the feker apart and have a look at it yerself. Volvo dealers int well known fer fixing Freelander's. They struggle with one of our pool cars for work. It's an immobiliser problem... Well change it then...

Are the correct voltages getting to it. Is the reflecter mechanisum free to move by hand...

LR don't make the part that has failed. I expect it is available, just not from LR. You'll need to take any numbers and the dimensions of the failed actuator/ motor/ solenoid and search for such an item. I had a similar problem with a BMW headlight, but found the shutter motor was just a small motor used in many applications. I found a new motor for a couple of quid and stuck it in.

I expect you could do a similar repair yourself.
