I am having a little lag in acceleration and wondered if it is possible to clean the MAF sensor before buying a new one as at the moment I am just trying a process of elimination before buying a new one

Cleaning a MAF will make little difference, if you do decide to do it only use switch cleaner as it will leave no residue, I have just noticed your photo you have a FL 2 yes so it could be something different other than the MAF

Cleaning a MAF will make little difference, if you do decide to do it only use switch cleaner as it will leave no residue, you would be better off unplugging the MAF and see if it drives nay better, if it does turn out to be the MAF only use a genuine bosch one to replace the out of spec one. also check all the vacuum hoses from the EGR and the turbo.

I just put engine running and then pulled power supply to MAF and engine still ran which I was told means MAF not working is this right?

No, I think its the other way round, but I could be wrong - if the engine won't run, but does when you pull the maf - then its a faulty maf - could be wrong though.

I think I will go down the route of cleaning it first as £4-00 is a cheap fix if it works :D

Only clean it with contact switch cleaner as it leaves no residue, and I doubt it will work, it may help for a short period of time but it will revert back to not in spec.

If the MAF sensor is kaput the engine will run better with it unplugged because the ECU reverts to a standard map without maf sensor input which Is better than it reacting to false input.
