hiya guys.

may i firstly wish everyone a new year.

ive been reading about the synergy 2 and changing the maf sensor at the same time.

it recommends to replace it if the FL is over 3 years old or has done more than 50,000 miles.

daft question am i able to just replace the original bosch sensor with a Pierburgh Maf.sensor without fitting the synergy 2 box.or do i have to fit it.

thanks as always guys

all the best

gary

Hi Gary,
Was readin' a post few weeks back that gave details on a new Pierburgh unit that had all the sensor bits added and was a direct replacement for the Bosch one.
If that's correct you can use it without the Synergy2.
Have a look back over the posts - unless someone has the link?
Happy new year.

yes, you can fit the synergy 2 without fitting the pierburgh maf, its only a recomendation to fit the pierburgh maf, i used the original bosch maf to start with, and then changed to the pierburgh one at a later date, and even though i thought my original maf was ok, when i fitted the pierburgh one i soon saw that it must have been out of spec:cool:

sorry, i just re-read your posting, I dont think you can fit the pierburgh maf without fitting the synergy 2, even though the pierburgh maf is "nearly" the same as the bosch one, the synergy 2 unit, corrects the signal

if ive got that wrong, someone will correct me

hiya,

thanks guys as always, to be honest im not sure if the maf is faulty or not, going on the recommendation of changing them every 3 years or 50,000 miles.

my TD4 auto has done 170,000 with a full land rover service history ive only owned it for around 6 months.

im intending to do a full serice, fit the modified crankcase filter, egr bypass kit, new glow plugs and looking into the synergy 2 with a maf as per recommendation.

just concernded that spending out alot of money on a synergy 2 if it doesnt improve things

wish to look after the FL and fitting the best modifications i can to improve the reliability of the FL

it also has the mot coming up in may so wish to get a early start on it, in about a months time.

just didnt know if i could replace the maf sensor without the synergy 2 box, just trying to save some cash where i can but by the sounds of it i cant fit it without the box.

does anyone know if the bosch maf sensors are expensive please.

it really does help considerably in getting hands on information which i must add is invaluable

thanks so much guys

fantastic help, followed the link to the company airmass, funny they are only 15-20 minutes down the road from me.

have emailed them hopefully i may be able to pop down there and have a chat

thanks so much again, as without your help i would have found a reliable company let alone a local one.

really appreciate your great help

If your Maf was seriously out of spec you would know by the way it drives, flat spot/hesitation when pulling away. If you have no symptoms don't change it.

If funds allow fit a synergy 2 at some point in future. It will make your Td4 engine respond so much better and if in future your maf starts to give trouble the synergy can be adjusted to compensate therefore no need for a replacement Maf

thanks chaser

now that sounds a good plan about buying the synergy 2.

that would certainly save me the extra 68.00 required.

is roveron the best place to go to please.

ive got the link but just wished to make double sure they were the best compnay to deal with, i did notice that they recommend buying a maf sensor , but as the synergy compensates i wont have to.

thanks so much, this place i feel is so valuable and gives everyone a vast amount of knowledge and expertise.

as always i bow and take my hat off to you guys in full admiration and appreciation as i know i do ask some daft questions

all the best

Chaser, As you stated below if the FL has flat spots etc change the MAF, my misses FL pulls away like a train on speed so I presume there is nothing wrong with it.

The reason I ask is the fuel economy is poor so I was thinking of changing the MAF sensor.

Its a 2006 FL facelift.

It also has the EGR mod done to it as well so I dont know what else to add/change to get the MPG better, would it or could it be the fuel filter the FL has done 32k thats all.

Hope you dont mind me asking.

In my opinion there are two contradictory things in this issue:

1. my misses FL pulls away like a train on speed

and
2. the search for better mileage ??????:D:D:D:D:D

What Im trying to explain is if she or me put the foot to the floor it pulls off well and no spots found.

So I presume the MAF sensor is ok.

She does not drive fast or heavy footed but its just poor on MPG hence my question.

I think the mileage will start to go up again once the weather becomes warmer. I noticed just a small detail, when driving a certain road I had the engine running at around 2K revs at a certain speed (cruise control) where on my way back, with the engine warm, at the same speed the engine did only 1.7K revs, now today, with the temperature being a little warmer, at the same speed at the same spot I felt (and saw) the rev counter drop to the normal 1.7K which I also had on the return trip.

I might give the MAF sensor a clean with AF Isoclene a Isopropyl Spray

99.7% pure Isopropanol
Leaves no residue
Ideal for cleaning magnetic read/write heads, edge connectors when reseating
PC boards, etc

Have about 10 cans here so that will do the trick.

Hi what are symptoms of Maf problems my Freebe TD4 pulls like a train
but in the 1500-1800rpm range it vibrates more.... even through there is
plenty of power ..... this equates to around 30-35mph in 4th gear....which is
really annoying......any thoughts???

Hi the vibration I get is almost torque induced.....specific to RPM and is not speed connected......am I asking to much to be able to drive along in 4th at 1500rpm....or 40 in 5th???
