Think Tinytdi may have saved you a £1.95 Email Rich. Why not copy & paste, put on Ebay & Email out yourself.. .Must go...

As the element in the MAF gets coated in this stuff it starts to loose its sensitivity and does not accurately detect the airflow. This obviously has an effect on the performance. If you remove the MAF (2 torx) and take a look you will probably notice the element is all black and cruddy. Give it a few blasts with some spray choke cleaner (but DO NOT TOUCH THE ELEMENT with your finger, screwdriver, knitting needle or anything silly other than the spray). Leave the MAF to dry for a few mins then fit it back. All should be well.
Yep i clean my maf bout every year use the same stuff as tinytdi use a tooth brush on it [dont use the same tooth brush on yer teeth after use] however youll be surprised how much ****e builds up on it. . .tinytdi said:My secret in removing those dreaded torx with the pin in the middle? Pliers - then replace them with easier to remove items. Careful though, it the jaws slip off the edge of the screw while your hand is on full grip they dont half pinch yer skin!!!
It twas very nice, had a lot of those stupid winged men with beach towels on their rockets first thing in morning[Mrs Ming sorted them out]. . .tinytdi said:Welcome back Ming. Hows Zog this time of year? I'm off there tomorrow...

willo said:Ok, so a can of choke/brake-cleaner and a soft toothbrush do the trick.
Thanks.
willo said:Hi all,
if the maf needs to be taken out for whatever reason to take the whole housing out. According to that guy the maf's are calibrated in the factory and if you take it out by undoing the two screws only (leaving the housing in place) he said you can easily/mostly loose 10, 20 if not 30 percent of the performance of the maf. He said he got a big client (Colruyt, big department store with lots of vehicles) who regularly brought in maf's for replacement under warranty. Bosch had a closer look and they noticed they took out the maf's of the housing and now they only will grant warranty if the maf remained untouched in the housing. That's also the reason why you can't get the maf's apart but always pre-mounted in the housing as one set. What do you all think about ??
