I have had a problem with my 2006 TD4 for about 8 months. Driving down the motorway it just started loosing power then would not accelerate. It ran okay with the MAF disconnected. I have a Synergy 2 fitted and a Pierburg MAF. Changed the MAF, no difference. Contacted Ron who checked the Synergy (twice) both times he said it is good but he changed the leads. I checked all the other sensors and connectors I could find, all seemed fine. Gave up and took it to an auto electrician. He fixed it by putting the MAF in the wrong way round so its held in by one screw but the car is now running fine. Has anybody else had this happen? Does anybody know why this has happened?

I can't see how the MAF can work correctly if it's fitted the wrong way round. The sensor element is designed to measure air mass by passing the air through a specially shaped chamber. This cools the hot wire through which the ECU passes a current and measures it. That's a strange one.

I would think by just turning the MAF sensor round it is just the same as unplugging it, so that is why it is running ok therefore it is not a proper fix.

I agree. The EDC is just assuming that the MAF has failed, so it's ignoring the signal and using the default map.

There is quite a difference in the way it runs with the MAF disconnected. I agree it should not work like this but it does.
