I was just about done putting everything back together after searching for a coolant leak, when I reconnected the MAF plug. That time it snapped into place and locked on as per normal.

I took it off again to put the insulation back on (04 gulf spec V8), then afterwards found that it wouldn't go back on as it did only a few minutes before.

It slides in, but not far enough to lock on. If I push, wiggle, hold the tabs in and wiggle, it won't go any further. It almost feels like it's pushed up against a bit of rubber(?)

The plug itself looks ok, and the socket has all pins, and none are bent.

It's got me stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I went back at it this morning and she plugged (and locked) straight back in.

What I reckon may have been the cause was I sprayed both the plug and socket with contact cleaner while it was out.

Maybe the cleaner either made the rubber temporarily swell and/or harden, preventing it all from going back together properly.

Anyway, problem now solved!
