Mac4x4 fundraiser - Holymoorside 13/14/15 August

by The Smiths
Holymoorside has been booked for the above weekend, earlier than last year - but unavoidable - but away from other trips (Gatescarth) that have been planned.

As some of you may be aware both we are taking part in the Mac4x4 Challenge 2011 next year http://www.mac4x4.co.uk/ . The challenge itself is a 4 day navigational event that takes place who knows where. All proceeds for the event go to a very worthy cause of which is Macmillan Cancer Support. The event last year raised a staggering £120000 and 2011 the organisers are aiming to beat that.

In recognition of the fund raising from the monkies our team name has been changed to Northern-monkies

In aim of reaching our MAC4x4 target we have decide to run a Pay and Play Camping weekend at a pay and play site at Holymoorside just on the outskirts of Chesterfield. The site itself is compact and challenging with plenty of water, mud, bomb holes and plenty of other challenges that will give vast amounts of entertainment.

The camping weekend will run from Friday afternoon till Sunday, on the Friday it will be an afternoon for setting up camp and possibly having a sniff round the site (and maybe a little play), Saturday and Sunday we will look at some "games" - also a good base to go and do some laning.

The campsite itself is very basic with nothing apart from open field surrounding it, but we will be having a portaloo on site, please bring everything else you are likely to need including water (beer and burgers) but bear in mind Chesterfield isn’t far away, there is a Morrison’s within a couple of miles of the site should you need anything. The campsite is suitable for both caravans and tents.

Here's a map showing the sites location

The weekend should be a good time for a couple of clubs to get together, we have opened the weekend up to other clubs so attendance should be good,

With regards to the payments the cost will be £20 per vehicle for the full weekend for camping and pay and play plus the challenges, we will then run a single day fee of £15 per day so the people that can’t devote the full weekend can still come along and join in this will be for either the Saturday or Sunday.

Please be aware the main purpose of this weekend is to generate funds for a very worthy cause, but we are all there to have fun at the same time. We will only be covering our costs for the site and the toilets everything else will be donated directly to the Mac Fund, totals raised will be confirmed once the event has taken place.

Well that saved me a post asking if there is anything going on that weekend in derbyshire !:) Will be in that part of the world that w.end so will do me fine .Just got to fit the snorkel if it arrives, and steering guard. Anyone else off here going ?

I live nearby and am planning a trip up on sunday. Is this an open event? Can I just turn up as I am not a member of any clubs. I am 16 but do have previous off road experience and will be with my grandad (how else can I get the car there ) who will also be driving. We both have experience but don't claim to be experts.

Thanks, Jake

I forgot to say that when I went up today someone has either hired or taken a brand new disco 4 for a test drive (I can't remember which) and taken it on. How is he going to explain that away??? Wish I had done it though.

Well I only got stuck once,! Thanks to matt savage for towing me out with his unimog:) You didnt see the bloke in the range rover getting stuck and possible snapping a halfshaft?? oops..!

I was only up there for about three quarters of an hour. I was just having a look around I wasn't in the Landy. I didn't see the Rangy. I'm hoping to spend a full day up there tomorrow. I have to add that the area is spectacular. I live really close and have never been to hollymoorside. The moors around there are amazing.

Was up there for a couple of hours lunchtime, then went to have a look up curber edge/gap,then back again.
The site doesnt seem quite as big as it looks on google earth, but is ok when you get there, and all for a good cause.

think you might struggle bud as there are a few tight turns, me and johnlad will be there tomorrow aswell.

I'll be stuck countless times I'm sure but hey it's gaining experience. I've never driven this car before other than into the garage so it's more about seeing what she can do. I don't have a lot of off road experience to be honest, I've only been doing this for a few months.
