Looking under the bonnet of my RR Classic (2-door, V8 petrol) before heading off with the missus for the obligatory sunday drive today i noticed some loose cables and would appreciate advice from anybody who knows or can make an educated guess about what they are for and where they are supposed to go. My reason for asking is to avoid ending up covered in ashes on a dirt track miles from anywhere wondering why the engine exploded.

This first one is the biggest and most serious looking so therefore concerns me the most:

This second one taken from the top looking down into the engine is of a part of the engine that has two wiring connection prongs. The top one was connected; the bottom one was not connected but there was a loose wire lurking in the vicinity that looked as if it belonged there:

This third one was apprehended lurking around near the connection prong for the engine temperature gauge that already has a wire conencted:

If you read this and draw the conclusion that the real problem is the connection missing between my eyes and brain you are probably right. Obviously if this is serious I need to get this checked by somebody who knows more about what they are talking about than I do. But before doing that I would like to know if it is serious or not, as maybe these cables are for accessories that do not have any significant effect on the running of the vehicle.

Maybe best solution is to just close the bonnet and go for a drive keeping an eye out for sparks or smoke puffing out from under the bonnet :flame:

Uh-huh... just figured out this first cable is for the original brake master cylinder that in my RR has been replaced with the newer master cylinder fitted to 1987-on models.

The earlier brake master cylinder had the cable connection on the cylinder whereas the 1987-on cylinder has the cable on the top of the fluid reservoir and a different type of connection. So I guess that cable is now about as useless as udders on a bull ie no problem.

Still trying to figure out the purpose of the other two cables.
