my 200tdi disco gearbox now developed a problem it won't go into second gear, sometimes it will and I noticve on the forum that it could be the plastic plate on top of the gearbox, where In have to remove the plastic console and membrane and metal guide plate and then u see the plastic thing? correct? has anyone got a pic of this plastic thing? so i know what it is etc

I changed the gearbox oils and same problem, hoping it is not knackered gearbox. if so would it be good idea for me to strip and rebuilt it using legs kit????? or get a second hand gearbox but then if i did rebuilt it i would know it has been done etc what is your advice?

Seriously though, I dont have experience of the "plastic thingy" but if it goes it sometimes but not others do you notice if the gear lever refuses to move to the correct possition? it would be a clue..

As for rebuilding it with the legs kit, i think you first need to inspect the inerds and see what is worn, the kit may have lots of things you dont need and not all you do.

Have a good play from the top first... you dont want to take the box out if you can avoid it.
