All the time.

Also when I fitted a discotheque tranny I noted the 77 output shaft is well manked.

What's my best option.

Is it worth getting a short R380 from crofts - not that i can afford 1 at 950 squids.

nooooooooooooooo just look out for another GB/TB combo - or if your good at mechano replace the shaft

Yeah I can do mechano. I imagined though that a whole bunch of pullers and presses and other special tools would be needed to get it all apart and back together again.

pullers and presses = hammers and ingenuity

there really isn't much involved in rebuilding either a landy GB or tranny box - i reckon you'd have change out of a ton replacing the output shaft and all of the bearings of a tranny box - or if you like a bet buy a cheap GB/tranny combo off ebay

but if you've got a grand burning a hole in your pocket and you want to keep your hands free give Mr Ashcroft a ring as it's this time of year that he usually books his annual 6 weeks in Costa Del Expensiveo

Ok perhaps I'll have a go.

I'm sure my tranny is ok.

I clearly need an output shaft for the 77 (would that be the main or lay or neither?) , but do we know what's causing the box to jump out of reverse?

Thanks for the help.

nackered syncro.also the shafts are notorious for spinnin smooth.I would pop in second hasnd box and tranny then fiddle with the old one at yer leisure.Got a spare box with tranny ere lt77 225 quids.also a 4 speed manwell rr box 200 quids.

thanks for the offer. I don't think i need the tranny box though.

skan 4x4. Warwick is your man. he is a disco breaker but last time i was there he had 4 defenders as well, I paid 60 for a transfer box.

Ok I'll check it out.

Last thing I bought from a breaker was a "superb low mileage" 200tdi engine for £250 which turned out to be £250 of scrap iron  - still in the garage corner.

So with breakers , it's a once bitten thing for me.....
