just 2 quick questions...
Recently had the master cylinder on the clutch changed, and bout 4 week later iv found 3rd gear virtually impossible to get into on a morning, until i pump the pedal... then its fine for about a day.. Reckon there's air in the pipe; need bleeding??

And Just like the rest of you guys defenders, Gearbox is dripping oil, obviously the seal, and i know they go all the time, but i don't think mines ever been done.
To renew the seal, is it a gearbox out job? or can it be done with gearbox in, how would a garage normally do it? i can imagine if its a gearbox out job; its gonna be expensive!

cheers guys.

which seal ,one in bell housing or rear one leaking down between the 2 boxes, front one obviously box out rear transfer box off and 3rd gear baulk ring must be getting worn if its the one you struggled with

Hi james.. Right well im not entirely sure whats what.. its the Bit directly infront of the Handbrake drum, the one with the 6 nuts, all in a domino style ;)
Those bolts all have oil drips on them.. what is that piece?

Baulk ring, how do i check that, is it something i can replace with guidance?

cheers.

the bit in front of drum is speedo housing(output housing)it is removable with out disturbing the rest of the box if leaking at joint ,bolts can be removed and selant applied to threads ,oil runs from front to back, seals behind drive flanges often leak as does intermediate shaft (big nut in middle of box at rear )where it comes out of front of box
