Hi,

I have a ex Discovery (I’m told) 300TDi/R380/LT230 transplanted into a Late S3.

I’m looking replace the transfer box with a recon item. My serial number is 22D5176533F.

So, 22D is a 1.222 ratio.` I assume this is a reduction so 1.22 is higher ratio than 1.6?

‘I’ve found some recon transfer boxes on eBay for outright purchase but none are a 22D. Can I fit one with another code assuming the ratio is ok?

Thank you.

Yes 1.2 is higher than 1.6
Iirc the following applies
1.192 range rover
1.2 disco
1.4 defender
1.6 think higher weight defenders

The lt230 is a veyr very tough unit, so tough I would say just get a 2nd hand one, fit some new seals, and install it, did read someweher the it can handle 1000bhp, how true that is I have no idea?
Every man and their dog wants the 1,2 disco ones, personally I would go for the def 1.4 unit.

Sorry, the above should read 28D rather than 22D.
I’m actually pretty happy with the current ratios as it’s mainly used on the road.

As hardy as they might be it doesn’t seem to have taken kindly to the front output seal giving up and being driven down the length of the M3 without oil.

If I’m shopping 2nd hand, will any LT230 physically bolt up?
