Hi All,

Just looking to purchase a Rangey and thinking LPG is a good bet to keep the costs down. Looking at 98-00 plates, with either a 4.0 or 4.6 engine. Anyone currently running LPG and could provide some feedback that would be great.

Cheers

I have a 4.6 with single point lpg. It works fine as i only do a small milage, if your doing a lot of miles then look for a multipoint one. Some will say lpg makes the engines overheat and bugger the engine, but i think this is more down to neglect than lpg. Lpg isnt cheap now 85.9 in my local station so getting it converted after buying isnt as good as it was ,as it will take ages to save any money, so look for one already done. Also mpg is slightly less on lpg. Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm on my 3rd 4.6 HSE with muli- point lpg system. I have never had any issues with over heating. As long as you look after levels etc. and maintain basic servicing ,oil changes it should be trouble free. I would go for the 4.6 has it has all the toys which if you are driving a luxury car it's nice to have. I still get a buzz every time I get into my P38, and touch wood have never had any real problems on any of the P38's that I have owned.Buy a 4.6 HSE with LPG and enjoy the best value that money can buy.

I have a 4.6 Vogue 2000 plate running on LPG, not had any engine related problems, had some p38 problems. Having had a DSE a couple of years ago, I would say go for the LPG option and make sure it is a quality multi-point system.

i agree with you the p38 if looked after is one car you get a buzz out of every time you drive it i have a 4.6 / LPG SINGLE POINT and its great

I agree. Buy one with a decent lpg system already fitted - it doesn't seem to add anything to the purchase price. Make sure the lpg system has been regularly serviced though - mine needed new lpg injectors straight away but has been perfect since.

A decent install should come with an installation certificate. I've never needed mine but it at least suggests that it's been installed correctly.

A lot of people claim that lpg helps the block to crack but I'm not at all convinced. A bad block will break regardless of the fuel. Mine's done 70k miles on lpg (135k total) with no issues.

4.6s supposedly had selected blocks so should be more reliable but that doesn't seem to follow based on what I've read! They are more powerful though and supposedly more economical than the 4.0s

You can download poi files for satnavs to help find lpg stations.

Best of luck with your search!

I have single point fitted to my 4.6hse,and it works perfectly :)

But the cost of lpg has gone up so much around my area, that i'm going to run mine on petrol for a week or so as i think its going to be nearly as cost effective (as it gets with a rangey ! ) as lpg. :(

lpg = 87p

Petrol = 1.28

So if lpg runs at half the mpg of petrol,i really dont want to be buying gas above say 64p a litre.
Is that the right way of looking at it ??

Anyway,50 litres of lpg gets me about 130 miles of around town driving.
Will see what the same amount of petrol gets me this coming week !

HALF THE MPG OF PETROL???!

I wouldn't call that working perfectly. Mine's better on lpg than on petrol!

Multipoint all the way!

Gas should be 85-90% mpg of gas compared to petrol.
So for example in simplton terms if your car dos 10mpg on petrol it would do 8.5 to 9 on a gallon of gas (4.65 litres to a gallon I think off the top of my head)
Mine returns 15 to 17 miles per gallon of gas. Mulitppoint all set up puka .
See my post re injectors well worth the 2 hours work.

Man,vodka and maths dont mix do they

I'm getting about 14mpg on lpg, from shortish journeys.

Would love to go multi point at some time, but with more fuel price rises to come soon thats on hold :(

Checked my lpg receipts from july last year, and i'm paying an extra £6 odd per tankfull.

Hi, i also have a single point install. Do you have any issues when you drive it on petrol?

adaptions need to be reset prob
Yes i know but they used to need a reset twice a year and now it's almost everytime i drive it on LPG.

Multipoint conversion is booked since months but installer is waiting for changes in LPG regulations here in France.

I have a BRC sequential setup on my L322 and it works fine. Cant tell whether its running on LPG or petrol its so smooth. Uses marginally more fuel on LPG but its hardly noticible.

I bought a 2000 4.6 Vogue and had it converted to run on LPG just over a year ago. I've covered around 12K miles including two trips to France - the multipoint LPG setup has worked fine, returning between 20-22mpg on average (much the same as on petrol). :D

Hi, no problems at all on petrol, i sometimes switch over to petrol if im stuck in heavy traffic as i idles slightly better on petrol, but other than that ive not noticed any difference.

Worst thing is that even if LPG was the same price as unleaded I'd still use LPG wherever possible, dont forget that the tax concessions are because it burns far cleaner and has much lower carbon emmisions than unleaded, therefore also far fewer carbons remaning in your engine block

:welcome2: hi , i too have a 4.6 v8 vogue with a thor engine late 2000 model ,as far as i know the thor engine is much more refined than earlier models my lpg returns are about 18mpg max , without looking for an argument i cant see how your getting 22mpg on lpg or petrol , i have recently had both fully serviced with new filters and trims set on lpg side and all petrol side done with new coils and leads as well . i do regular trips from m/cr to lincolnshire and mileage is same all time total return journey is 260 miles so regulary do the mpg calculations and only varies slightly depending on speeds , so would be interested as to how you achieve 22 mpg on both petrol and lpg ???? my lpg is 2 yrs old and a multipoint the motor has done 83000 from new and is immaculate and drives like a dream . so to the chap looking to buy one try and get one already fitted with a multipoint and even better still late model with a thor n keep it regularly serviced and you wont go far wrong ,,,hope this helps cheers mozz:D:D:D:D
